Job Description

The Manager, Business Intelligence and Operations within Academic Affairs will serve as a leader within the Business Analysis team to support primarily the offices of the Provost, Vice Provost for Academic Operations (VPAO), Vice Provost for Teaching, Learning Design and Assessment (VPTLDA), University Registrar, University Advising, Online and Innovative Educational Initiatives (OIEI) and the Center for International Education (CIE). Key goals of these offices are implementation of innovative educational programs and partnerships, student retention and success, delivery of quality academic programs, developing efficient and effective University processes, and ensuring integrity of the NAU degree.

The Manager develops data-driven insights and creates strategies to manage and maintain university business projects. Oversees business intelligence support and recovery tools to protect university and intelligence data.

The Manager reports to the Director of Academic Operations and Technology and performs the roles of manager of daily operations and supervisor of a team of expert staff serving as business analysts, report writers, and project managers. The Manager develops and maintains an understanding of a department or division-level needs and their alignment with business goals and objectives. This position demonstrates knowledge of routine work applications, and serves as a mentor, coach, and escalation point for team members. The Manager contributes to aspects of complex projects and collaborates with management across the institution.

Operations Management - 30%

  • Assign and manage team members’ workloads and tasks to support daily operations and production support.
  • Manage incoming requests and assignment of tickets.
  • Assist with departmental consultations and project scoping as needed.
  • Serve as team representative on divisional and university-wide committees as assigned.

Supervisory Functions - 25%

  • Serve as supervisor, trainer, mentor, coach, and super user support for assigned functional areas of oversight.
  • Function as technical resource liaison with IT and other departmental management and leadership.
  • Determine and address training needs related to Business Analysis, Project Management, and Business Intelligence skills for team members.
  • Develop professional growth goals with team members.
  • Provide support for risks or concerns and escalate as needed.

Project Management - 15%

  • Serve as Project Manager for system upgrades or large projects requiring multiple Academic Affairs Business Analysis team members as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Director on upcoming strategic priorities, team resource availability, and timeline development.

Reporting - 15%

  • Ensure data integrity of task and project tracking.
  • Report project progress to Director or others per defined schedule.
  • Ensure visibility into project status for stakeholders.
  • Utilize data to promote effective and efficient operations and escalate bottlenecks to leadership.

Business Analysis - 10%

  • Support the technical goals of the Academic Affairs division through analysis implementation, evaluation, and review of technology and business processes.
  • Participate in software development cycle with stakeholders and developers across divisions.

Other duties as assigned - 5%


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • 1-2 years of management or supervisory experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in business administration, management, project management, or related field.
  • Business systems support experience in higher education.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, SalesForce, and/or ServiceNOW.
