Job Summary

Primary purpose
Instruct academic courses and support the department, college and university goals by supporting the academic environment to benefit the educational mission of the University.
The faculty employee is expected to contribute to the departments educational mission.  Faculty will be expected to instruct our students in the respective disciplines at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The faculty employee is expected to have:
1. understanding of the principles associated with teaching and learning.
2. strong communication skills and successful higher education teaching experience.
3. a developing research agenda.
Demonstrable ability to work collegially and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds. In keeping with the University's mission, we especially encourage applicants who will further our goal of cultural, ethnic, racial, and gender diversity.

This position carries a non tenure track status.

This position will teach introductory Physics and Astronomy courses as well as integrated physical science and serve as Laboratory Coordinator for either the introductory physics laboratory sequence or the introductory astronomy labs. As a non-tenure track appointment with a primary focus on teaching, there is not a research expectation.

Responsibilities

Faculty -Teaching /Instructing

1- Teaching introductory Physics and Astronomy lectures and labs as well as integrated physical science.

2- Ability to maintain internally developed physics and astronomy lab materials and resources.

3- Maintenance and weekly setup of equipment for either the astronomy or physics laboratories.

Faculty- Service to Institution

1- Faculty are expected to demonstrate service that directly impacts the quality of education provided to students and is related to a faculty member's primary teaching duties.

2-All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
A Ph.D. (terminal degree) in Physics or Astronomy
Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials))

Preferred Qualifications

1)Teaching experience in physics and astronomy at the college level
2) Ability to maintain internally developed physics and astronomy lab materials and resources
3) Well versed in best practices in assessing student learning

Hiring preference will be given to faculty who demonstrate an understanding of Georgia College's mission and who are enthusiastic about working closely with high-achieving students within an academic community dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through learning and scholarship.
