About the Position:
The Psychology Department at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites applicants for a 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level with expertise in Developmental Psychology. This faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate courses such as Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology, Behavioral Interventions, Abnormal Psychology/Child Psychopathology, and possibly other Undergraduate and Graduate Courses depending on the candidate’s area of specialization.    The successful candidate will show evidence of success in teaching undergraduate psychology courses, or evidence of clear potential for such. As a teacher­scholar, the faculty member will also maintain a program of meaningful disciplinary research that is engaging to both undergraduate and graduate students. This position will remain open until filled, but the search committee will begin its review of applications on or about November 1, 2021.

Anticipated start date is August 2022.   

About the Psychology Department at WCU:  This is a very exciting time of development and growth in the Psychology Department at Western Carolina University (WCU). Our department currently has openings for two tenure-track positions and one fixed-term position. At the undergraduate level, the psychology major is WCU’s second largest major. At the graduate level, we welcomed the first cohort into our new Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Health Service Psychology (Combined Clinical-School) program in August 2019. In addition, the department houses a Master’s program in Clinical Psychology and a Specialist in School Psychology graduate program. The typical teaching load is 3-3. WCU offers faculty numerous internal funding opportunities to support scholarship and conference travel. In addition, the Psychology Department offers access to innovative research tools (e.g., an EEG and Eyetracker in our Neuroscience Lab) as well as opportunities for faculty collaboration with the department’s McKee Assessment and Psychological Services Clinic and the University’s Lab School, the Catamount School.
