Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is now accepting applications for the position of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Flight Instructor and Research Support Specialist in the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Lab at our Daytona Beach Campus.

The UAS Flight Instructor and Research Support Specialist will instruct students in the proper use of small department small UAS equipment. The UAS Flight Instructor and Research Support Specialist will work with faculty and other UAS flight instructors to support small UAS flight operations with students involved in; UAS flight training courses, research, and service-learning.

The UAS Flight Instructor and Research Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Conduct flight training lessons in Unmanned Aircraft (UA) designated flight courses as assigned by the chair.
  • Support faculty research and service-learning training as assigned by the chair.
  • Help maintain the sUAS fleet, keep support equipment in operational status, and maintain equipment inventory.
  • Assist in the recording of maintenance and flight records for the purpose of meeting FAA reporting requirements.
  • May involve supervision of part-time UAS instructors (student assistants) while conducting student flight training for UA 201, UA 301, and in support of faculty research projects in approved cases.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in aviation or a closely related field, with 1-3 years experience operating unmanned systems. (Master’s degree preferred.)
  • Remote Pilot Certificate per 14CFR Part 107
  • Record of experience flying sUAS.
  • FAA Certified Remote Pilot, maintain currency in department unmanned aircraft.
  • Analytical skills with an in-depth knowledge of Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook/email, and Internet end-user applications.
