Employees form the core of The O’Shaughnessy’s technical services for events. Stage Technicians provide technical services for our productions under the guidance of the Production Services Coordinator, Production Manager, and House Technicians. On-call Stage Technicians joinIATSE Local 13 upon a threshold of 240 hours worked.

Job responsibilities may include duties related to large events, or, in the absence of other supervisors, training inexperienced crew on appropriate safe use of systems & equipment. 90% of the total work time will be spent set-up and operation the theatrical equipment provided by The O’Shaughnessy.

On-call Stage Technicians may do any of the following:
  • Stage lighting including pre-production planning, hanging of plot, focus, lighting console operation, & general lighting maintenance.
  • Sound including pre-production planning, audio console operation [live mix, pre-recorded sound playback] & general maintenance of sound equipment.
  • Stage rigging including pre-production planning, general understanding of stage rigging [counterweight system], general stage carpentry.
  • Wardrobe services including stitching, cutting, laundry and dresser services.

Please note that this position involves exposure to high-level noise during events, working at heights, working with hot lighting equipment and may include heavy lifting.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Previous work experience in live event production.
  • Experience in backstage production service for technical theater.
  • Heavy lifting is typically done by more than one employee, but must be able to lift up to 50 pounds independently.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, work at heights and work effectively in low level lighting.

  • Experience in all of the following areas of stagecraft is helpful for an on-call stage technician:
    • Stage lighting
    • Sound
    • Stage rigging
    • Wardrobe
