CONTINUING TRACK PROFESSOR IN ART CONSERVATION, COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES.

The Art Conservation Department in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware invites applications for a full-time, permanent, teaching and service-focused continuing track (non-tenured) faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is focused primarily on undergraduate teaching, advising, and mentoring. Instructional coursework will be centered on the fundamentals of the examination, documentation, treatment and preventive care of cultural heritage. Our undergraduate curriculum is designed to balance the theoretical with the practical, ensuring that our students have the skills and abilities to excel. The position will also include leading important service-related initiatives including:

1. Broadening the visibility and reach of the Department using both traditional and social media.

2. Building robust community and national partnerships.

3. Facilitating our internal and external work in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

4. Strengthening undergraduate recruitment and retention in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and the Career Center.

5. Leading undergraduate research and service-learning opportunities.

6. Developing new internship, special sessions, and experiential study opportunities, including study abroad and spring break study.

The successful candidate will be expected to enhance the Department's undergraduate course offerings through effective teaching and course development. The successful candidate will clearly connect the realities of conservation practice across multiple conservation specialties, and supervise internships in the candidate's specialty (e.g. objects, paintings, paper, library and archival materials, photographs, textiles, furniture, and preventive conservation, etc.). The successful candidate will have the abilities and knowledge to strengthen students' critical-thinking skills, encourage collaboration and ethical decision-making, and inspire innovation. The successful candidate will have the management and leadership skills necessary to serve during their tenure as the Director of the Undergraduate Program at the University of Delaware.

Requirements: The candidate should have at least five years of experience in conservation-restoration and a demonstrated and sustained commitment to the conservation of cultural heritage, as well as an established interest in building professional collaborations across disciplines and geographical boundaries. A terminal degree in the applicant's area of study is required; teaching experience is preferred. Strong communication and project management skills are also preferred.

The main campus of the University offers a traditional small-town college atmosphere in a location that affords easy access to major cultural and entertainment centers in nearby metropolitan areas. The University of Delaware main campus is located midway between New York City and Washington, D.C. (each is about a two-hour drive from campus). The Art Conservation Department is within the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of Delaware. CAS offers exceptional educational experiences including integrated instruction, research, and public engagement. With 24 academic departments and more than 25 centers, programs, and institutes, the College serves close to 7,000 undergraduate students and over 1,000 graduate students with CAS majors, but also every University student through foundational course work.
