Position Summary: The Director of Institutional Research provides data, analytics and research support for the continual improvement and operational excellence of Mount Mary University. The Director supports data-informed decision-making across the University to provide a strategic and comprehensive institutional perspective. The Director is responsible for planning, analyzing, evaluating and reporting on internal and external data requests and works closely with colleagues that coordinate enrollment, assessment, accreditation and grant-funded initiatives. The Director develops and manages information systems and databases to support institutional research activities. The director oversees compliance and works with University constituencies that are responsible for meeting compliance requirements from state, federal and other external entities. The primary work of this position is oversight of institutional research and compliance. Experience with accreditation and assessment are highly valued.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee submission of federally required data such as IPEDS and additional data required by external constituents (e.g., Common Data Set, Accrediting bodies, Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges & Universities, Higher Education Regional Alliance, etc.).
  • Analyzes, translates, and disseminates data in user-friendly, accessible reports, dashboards, and presentations
  • Responds to internal, time-critical, ad-hoc needs for data and information
  • Administers graduation and alumnae surveys and prepares annual reports for internal distribution
  • Assists with the development, administration, and collection of other internal and benchmarking surveys; Maintains University survey schedule
  • Serves on cross-functional teams as appropriate, including University Assessment Committee
  • Supports pre- and post-award grants management through collection, assessment, analysis, and reporting of data.
  • Acquires, manipulates, develops, and maintains longitudinal data sets, confirming accuracy and reliability over time.
  • Provides data analysis support, and facilitates the integration of processes and results into strategic planning processes.
  • Serves as chairperson of the Compliance Committee.
  • Coordinates with units across campus on regulatory reporting and dissemination to ensure compliance.
  • Track completion of required compliance materials on campus and holds campus members accountable for deadlines on submission.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


  • Serves as the technical and project support for HLC Accreditation
  • Maintains files of accreditation documents, such as self-studies, institutional reports, schedules of evaluations, and correspondence from HLC.


  • Supports a university-wide culture of inquiry in which data is used to measure the effectiveness of all programs, services, and processes.
  • Creates department dashboards for use in annual and 5-year assessment reports.
  • Work with the business office to create cost/revenue analysis of academic departments.
  • Compiles and regularly disseminates results of assessment projects.

Skills and Experience

  • 2+ years of work experience managing and analyzing large datasets
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, with a high degree of accuracy
  • Highly analytical and detail oriented
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty successfully and professionally. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's or Doctoral Degree preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Tableau or other dashboard and analytics software
  • Strong project management, organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills
  • Experience with statistical packages such as SPSS, preferred
  • Experience in higher education, preferred
  • Expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Knowledge of statistical and analytical survey instruments, protocol, and procedures.
  • SQL programming ability and/or other software used to manipulate, summarize, and produce reports from multiple, large, complex data sets.
  • Expertise in Jenzabar (preferred) or other higher education administrative platform required.
  • Knowledge of higher education institutional and programmatic accreditation processes preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to work in a way that honors diverse cultures, perspectives, and people.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

  • Varying workflow; sometimes with high workload at certain times of the year
