About the Opportunity:
Northeastern University invites applications for tenure-track candidates to work in the fields of Microbiology, Microbial Genomics and Antimicrobial Drug Resistance, broadly defined. The primary appointment will be in the Department of Biology of the College of Science, with joint appointments in other Colleges including the Bouve College of Health Sciences and the College of Engineering. Applicants will have the opportunity to collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams across the University and will complement existing strengths.

Relevant fields of study include all areas of the biological sciences, synthetic and medicinal chemistry, physiological genomics, bioengineering, and computational modeling. We seek individuals who will work across disciplines rooted in molecular microbiology, bacterial and viral genomics, microbial pathogenicity, the host-pathogen interface, and antimicrobial drug discovery. Candidates are invited for positions at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) beginning in academic year 2022-2023. Exceptional senior candidates will be considered for appointment at higher ranks.

The Department of Biology is strongly interdisciplinary, with 20 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 20 non-tenure-track teaching faculty, and 4 additional faculty with joint appointments Biology and other departments across Northeastern. In addition to internationally recognized efforts in antimicrobial discovery, research in the Department of Biology spans numerous other disciplines that are central to biotechnology and human health, including developmental and stem cell biology, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, human movement neuroscience, mitochondrial biology and genetics, human reproduction, and aging. The Department of Biology administers or co-administers programs in Biology, Cell & Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Behavioral Neuroscience for over 2,000 undergraduates, and it trains over 150 students in PhD, Masters and Professional Masters programs. With the College of Science under new leadership, and the College and the Department of Biology are in a vibrant expansion phase.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have a PhD in the biological sciences or other closely related discipline, such as microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics or genomics by the appointment start date. Postdoctoral research experience, while recommended, is not required. All applicants should have a strong record of scholarly accomplishment that demonstrates research productivity and the ability to perform cutting edge research. Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level should have substantial research productivity and an established history of grant support and academic service. Research excellence is the top-most priority. Depending on the research profile and expertise, a joint or affiliate appointment in another department(s) within the University is possible.
