Position:
Graduate Studies at the Maryland Institute College of
Art (MICA) invites applications for a full-time faculty appointment
to serve as Full-time Faculty, Art Education &
Practicum Coordinator in the Master of Arts in
Teaching (MAT) program at a private art and design college
nationally known for the high quality of its graduate programs, its
dedication to student learning and teaching excellence, and its
distinction in fine and design arts at national and international
levels. The Practicum Coordinator is a faculty position with
administrative responsibilities on a multi-year renewable contract
at this non-tenure institution, and begins August 2022.
MICA recognizes diversity and inclusion as fundamental
to its community and central to excellence in graduate art and
design education. We welcome candidates whose experiences in
professional practice, teaching, research, or service have prepared
them to contribute to diversity and excellence at MICA.
Job Description:
Graduate Studies at MICA seeks a dedicated
educator-administrator-artist, with professional experience in
PreK-12 art education, to manage the coordination and
administration of site-based internship placements in a
state-approved educator preparation program and to teach
courses that support this work. The Practicum Coordinator
assumes the administrative responsibilities for all school-based
internships and associated internal and external activities related
to teacher certification and compliance; half of the position is
administrative work and the other half is teaching coursework
central to the internship experiences. Responsibilities are
concentrated in the fall and spring, with some administrative
responsibilities necessary during the summer term. This role
includes the opportunity to, at intervals, rotate out of the
administrative role in order to engage in other teaching
opportunities within or beyond the MAT program.
The ideal candidate will further the position of MICA
and the MAT program as leaders in art and design education through
demonstrated expertise in clinical supervision and curricular
innovation; a solid grounding in historical, structural, and
systemic issues that inform and challenge contemporary PreK-12 arts
education; prior engagement with credentialing policies, especially
in the State of Maryland; a passion for building relationships with
diverse students; and an interest in nurturing school partnerships
throughout the Baltimore-Washington D.C. metropolitan area, as well
as within Baltimore City.
With MAT faculty, the Practicum Coordinator
participates in program functions such as admissions, curriculum
development, and program assessment and accreditation. As a
full-time faculty member, the Practicum Coordinator is expected to
contribute to the life of Graduate Studies and the College through
cross-programmatic collaboration, committee work, and other
institution-related duties. All full-time faculty at MICA are
expected to pursue research and/or professional engagements that
contribute to the educational mission of the College.
