Sr. Advisor, Vice President for Communications

University Communications is seeking aSenior Advisor who serves on the Vice President of Communication’s senior leadership team and functions as a key adviser to the VP. This position will lead and/or co-lead strategic internal initiatives, lead and manage external projects of key significance, act as a point person in coordinating communications planning and functions across divisions, and coordinate and manage priorities in the Vice President’s office. The Sr. Advisor serves as the initial point of contact for the Vice President’s office in his absence and coordinates with the appropriate members of the senior leadership team and others to respond to requests, opportunities, and complaints on behalf of the Vice President. This senior staff role requires strong strategic planning, writing, management and collaboration skills.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Advise and support the Vice President with respect to strategic planning for University Communications.
  • Lead and/or co-lead strategic internal initiatives.
  • Prioritize, lead and manage projects of key significance.
  • Provide direct support to the Vice President’s senior leadership team, to develop, implement and support programs that promote the functions of the Office of the Vice President for Communications.
  • Support the Vice President in leading the operations of Communications, working in close consultation with the Communications senior leadership team.
  • Strengthen coordination among communications staffs throughout the university’s divisions and departments.
  • Provide direct support to the Vice President in the management and timely resolution of significant matters; evaluation of programs and services; research and analysis.
  • Interface regularly with the Vice President’s leadership team around communication priorities and other requests.
  • On an as-needed basis, provide leadership to Communications functional teams during times of growth and transition.
  • Represent the Vice President in dealing with administration, faculty, staff and external stakeholders as required.
  • Represent the Vice President on internal and external committees as needed.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and campus partners.
  • Participate in the selection process for senior-level management positions and make recommendations to the Vice President regarding the selection of individuals to fill such positions.
  • Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality.
  • Flexible, highly skilled and independent position able to handle other appropriate matters as assigned by the Vice President.
  • May require evening and weekend hours.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree and seven years progressively responsible related experience required.
  • Ten or more years of progressively responsible related experience strongly preferred.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
