The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located in Houston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, and museum district, is seeking applicants for a full-time Assistant Director for Community Partnerships. This position reports directly to the Director of the Donald S. Nesti CSSp Center for Faith and Culture (NCFC).

 

Summary

The Assistant Director for Community Partnerships will focus on a variety of activities including, under the direction of the Nesti Center's Director, developing local community partnerships, coordinating the Nesti Center participation in local community partnership events and engaging the Nesti Center in special projects that focus on pastoral, ecumenical, and civic initiatives. The Assistant Director for Community Partnerships will assist the Director in the planning and implementing of these activities, initiatives, and events. The Assistant Director will also serve as a resource to other members of NCFC.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, implementation and development of various pastoral and ecumenical initiatives in alignment with the pastoral vision developed with the Director of the NCFC.
  • Assist in the coordinating and conducting of various conferences, symposia, ecumenical events, dialogues and lectures as part of the NCFC's initiatives to engage civic society and other religious organizations to build community partnerships.
  • Work closely with the Director and other NCFC team members to develop outreach programs that serve to strengthen the University's and Nesti Center's relationship with other religious groups and organizations.

 

  • Attend and participate in various ecumenical and interreligious meetings and events, on behalf of the Director, representing the Nesti Center for Faith and Culture and UST.
  • At the direction of the Director of the NCFC, work in collaboration with all NCFC staff members to help prioritize the work of the Center and to implement the strategic plan of the Center.
  • Work collaboratively with the NCFC staff in carrying out its mission and works.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education
    • An undergraduate degree is required in theology, religious studies, or related fields such as Catholic social teaching and public policy required.
    • Preferred subject matters and skill sets (or equivalent experience) may include but not be limited to studies in Catholic Social Teaching, Theology, Religious Studies, Mediation, Advocacy and Public Policy.
  • Experience
  • The Assistant Director for Community Partnerships must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church.
  • A minimum off four years of experience working on various events and projects that relate to working with ecumenical organizations and religious groups and civic groups.
  • Minimum of two years of experience planning events such as, but not limited to, meetings, conferences, and symposiums.
  • Familiarity and detailed knowledge of other faiths including, but not limited to Protestant Christian denominations, Judaism, Buddhism, Muslim, and other predominant faiths is preferred.
  • Familiarity with civic and government leaders in Greater Houston and can freely call upon them as needed.
  • A well-established network of key religious contacts in the Houston metropolitan area and in the Arch Diocese of Galveston-Houston is important. The person in this position should have developed a network of contacts with ecumenical and interreligious leaders, organizations, synagogues, and churches.
  • The Assistant Director of Community Partnerships must possess strong communication skills, both oral and written, as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience developing presentations and making presentations to small and large groups.
  • Demonstrate strong administrative, organization and project management skills and be committed to working in a collaborative style with faculty and staff of the university, Archdiocesan personnel, and members of various churches and interfaith religions, organizations, and the community at large.
  • Experience with facilitating initiatives for on-going adult formation by facilitating dialogue, lectures and presentations with diverse communities.
  • Experience preparing and presenting presentations, and moderating and facilitating small group and large group settings, particularly dealing with catholic social thoughts, spirituality and social justice.
  • Proficient in speaking and writing in Spanish is preferred.
