Job Summary:

The Czajkowski lab is seeking a highly motivated person who is excited about science to play an integral part in furthering our research in the structure, function and dynamics of ligand-gated ion channels. Successful applicants should be able to work independently and as part of a team, learn new techniques quickly and easily, and should be able to apply critical thinking to daily tasks. It is expected that the applicant will be able to contribute to writing of manuscripts and grant applications, contribute to laboratory maintenance and organization, and maintain laboratory records. The successful applicant provides technical expertise to fundamental and/or applied scientific research under the direction of senior research personnel or faculty.

Specific Duties include, but not limited to: mammalian and iPSC cell culture, DNA/RNA purification, quantitative RT-PCR, PCR, western blotting, DNA cloning, and membrane protein biochemistry. Expectations include implementing independent research experiments under the guidance of the PI, analyzing and presenting data, maintaining a well-documented lab notebook, designing methodologies, and managing the day-to-day running of the lab. Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to participation in regular lab meetings, journal club, laboratory organization, documentation and regulatory compliance, working with and training undergraduate and graduate students and writing manuscripts.

Education:

Required
Master's degree in biological sciences or related field is required.

Qualifications:

At least 2-4 years of post-graduate experience working in a biomedical research laboratory. Strong research experience in the following areas is highly desired: mammalian cell culture, iPSC culture, electrophysiology, molecular biology techniques, membrane protein purification and Western blotting. Additional consideration will be given to applicants with skills in electrophysiology. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are required. A history of writing scientific publications is desired.

Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles listed in this posting. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.

Effective January 1, 2020, the U.S. Department of Labor Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be updated to require that positions earning less than $35,568 annually be considered non-exempt under FLSA provisions for overtime (see https://www.dol.gov/whd/overtime2019/). Based on these rules, if the person selected for this recruitment will earn less than the new salary threshold at January 1, 2020 ($35,568 annually), he/she will be an academic staff non-exempt employee, will be paid hourly, and will receive overtime compensation for any hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
