General Statement of Job

The Assistant Dean of Admissions plans, initiates, executes and evaluates programs for recruitment and admission of graduate and transfer students. This position provides guidance and approval for students seeking admissions into the University. In addition, this person supervises the Regional Admissions Counselor-Crowder and the Regional Admissions Counselor (Springfield) and oversees the daily operations of the office in the absence of the Dean.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

Oversees the daily operations for the Office of Admissions in the absence of the Dean.

Works closely with the Dean to establish and monitor the Office of Admissions budget.

Supervises the Regional Admissions Counselor-Crowder and the Regional Admissions Counselor (Springfield).. Conducts 1:1’s with direct reports. Manages, coaches, trains and holds direct reports accountable to but not limited to territory management, budgetary and goal requirements set forth by the Dean of Admissions.

Conducts annual and semi performance evaluations and when necessary disciplinary measures.

Responsible for interviewing, selecting and training admissions staff. Manages staff complaints and has disciplinary authority.

Prepares, manages and executes graduate and transfer recruitment plan each academic year and presents to Dean of Admissions.

Travels to community colleges to meet with prospective students and counselors.

Oversees travel schedule, budget, reports and tracking of recruiting activities for graduate and transfer recruitment.

Responsible for managing the university’s graduate and transfer student recruitment efforts in an assigned territory and other areas responsible for overseeing by using CRM and other university software.

In collaboration with the Director of Admissions Marketing and Communications, plan and execute promotion and communication strategies to grow the applicant pools for all graduate and transfer programs

Represents Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) at college day and night fairs.

Contacts potential students each week throughout the recruitment cycle.

Works cooperatively with the Registrar’s Office in developing Transfer Equivalency Guides with other colleges/universities and posts them on the MSSU Admissions web site.

Serve as principal graduate admissions contact for corporate partnerships and campus based joint degree partnerships. This includes representing the university in meetings, delivering presentations to partners and prospective students, and serving as college liaison to prospective students.

Responsible for graduate student recruitment practices at the university and will collaborate with all graduate programs on campus to grow our graduate student population

Helps organize, set-up and participate in receptions and special events designed to attract new students.

Create and execute graduate student strategic recruitment plan and set institutional graduate recruitment goals.

Provide insight to campus leadership regarding graduate admissions and planning for future recruitment and enrollment initiatives.

Serves as a liaison between the Office of Admissions and Graduate Council.

Oversees all graduate student applications and coordinates admissions decisions with graduate programs

In coordination with the Campus Visit Coordinator, plans and executes graduate student orientation.

Conducts unofficial evaluations of transcripts.

Serves on university committees as designated.

Performs other related duties as required.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university required. Master’s degree preferred.

Two years related experience in higher education required. Four years related experience in higher education preferred.

Must have valid driver's license and ability to meet insurance requirements for driving University vehicles.

Ability to travel extensively is required.

2 years supervisory experience preferred

  • Ability to travel extensively including overnight travel.
  • Ability to effectively use the Internet as a research tool.
  • Must have proven excellent public speaking skills.
  • Requires the ability to use computers for data entry.
  • Requires the ability to use computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes.
  • Requires the ability to make recommendations that impact the budget.
  • Requires the ability to use social media for recruitment initiatives.
