Job Summary

The Parent Giving and Boulder Advancement Programs (PG/BAP) team for the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Discovery Officer. The ideal candidate will help grow overall engagement and fundraising results through teamwork, creativity, problem-solving and leadership annual giving solicitations. The Discovery Officer collaborates with the PG/BAP team to help identify prospective major gift donors to more deeply engage, cultivate and solicit philanthropic support for the University. The Discovery Officer will also hold a portfolio of Colorado-based leadership annual giving donors and prospective donors from which they will qualify, cultivate and solicit support.

This entry-level fundraising position is an ideal role in which to learn and refine the important foundational skills vital in becoming a major gift officer. The Discovery Officer reports to the Senior Director of Development.

The PG/BAP team engages and generates philanthropic support from parents, alumni and friends that benefit our schools, colleges and programs, including Student Affairs, Undergraduate Education, Financial Aid and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Team leader around discovery and outreach

1. Builds on and refines systems and processes to support four Development Officers’ (DOs) work to qualify and cultivate a large base of donors and prospective donors.
2. On behalf of Development Officers, thoughtfully communicates with and acts as point of contact for large base of out-of-state, high-capacity parents and donors.
3. Aid in Development Officer work to engage parents, alumni and friends in major metropolitan markets outside Colorado through digital and personal outreach. Schedule face-to-face and digital donor meetings for DOs. Manage details around meetings with the highest attention to detail.
4. Use technical and analytical skills and evaluate large sets of data and support DOs with donor research.

Frontline fundraiser

1. Maintain portfolio of approximately 50-80 donors and prospective donors to achieve individual goals, including personal visits, gift solicitations, and stage moves, to be set with and approved by supervisor.
2. Travel across the Front Range to qualify, identify, cultivate and solicit existing and new relationships with parents and donors capable of making gifts annually of $2,500 - $100,000.
3. Works closely with PG/BAP senior leadership to develop and implement fundraising strategies to meet established goals and objectives around fundraising priorities.
4. Facilitates positive relationships among donors and CU Boulder advancement staff, campus leadership, and faculty, to close gifts.

Administrative

1. Timely completion of work across both essential functions.
2. Tracks and analyzes short- and long-term trends in data to inform strategic decisions.
3. Fully documents prospect strategies, contact reports, gift solicitations and stewardship reports within donor database.
4. Represents the PG/BAP team at events to support the University and cultivate donors.
5. Supports stewardship and cultivation of donors through personalized outreach, especially around Parent Leadership Society and other annual events.

What You Should Know
We currently offer a flexible schedule with weekly remote and in-office work.

Will travel monthly throughout Front Range.

What We Can Offer

The salary range is $45,000- $50,000 annually.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s Degree or a combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • A basic knowledge of fundraising techniques. Fundraising experience via internships or volunteer work accepted.

  • Strong digital literacy especially as it relates to Microsoft Office Products, MS Word, PowerPoint and especially Excel. Skilled at working with a CRM.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Familiarity with CU Boulder and/or an alumnus/alumna of the University.
  • Experience recruiting and managing activities of volunteer staff.
  • Curiosity about learning and ability to cultivate and solicit donations from individuals at the major gift level.
