Position Summary Delivers instruction in undergraduate
communication courses offered by the School of Arts and Sciences.
Participates in all department, school, and University-wide tasks
and activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares and delivers instruction for day, evening, and some online class courses at the undergraduate level on main campus.
- Provides instruction in courses such as: Basic Speech Communication and Introductory Speech courses.
- Participates in teaching effectiveness and assurance of learning efforts.
- Coordinates and supervises adjuncts in Speech communications courses.
- Adheres to the established class schedule and office hours. Submits contracts, book requests, syllabi, grades, evaluations, and other required paperwork and reports by due dates.
- Supports the maintenance of accreditation with SACSCOC.
- Participates in School-based faculty committee meetings.
- Participates in University-wide committees and professional development activities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
- Earned masters or doctorate in Speech communication or related field such as English Rhetoric, Communication or Theatre from an accredited university is preferred. ABDs will be considered.
Experience
- Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence is required and relevant mass communication experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with academic policies and procedures of higher education institutions.
- Ability to work effectively with other University personnel.
- Ability to provide service to both the University and the community.
- Ability to comply with rules, standards, regulations and laws related to student records.
- Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to be discrete in handling confidential and sensitive matters, while complying with FERPA regulations.
- Familiarity with Educational learning management systems/modules such as Blackboard or Canvas.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and/or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students, and University employees.
