Assistant Professor Faculty Position in Biology- Molecular Microbiologist

Manhattanville College is an independent, coeducational, liberal arts college located about 30 miles north of New York City on a picturesque campus of 100 acres.  The College enrolls a nationally and internationally diverse student body of approximately 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students with over 40% of our students coming from historically underrepresented populations. Building on its heritage of social justice and social activism, the College prepares students, through rigorous academic and co-curricular programs, for ethical and socially responsible leadership in a global community.  We achieve this through integrated learning that combines classroom rigor with experiential opportunities, leadership with service, intimate attention with global reach, progressive change with enduring values, and social commitment with ethical responsibility. The College is fully committed to an inclusive and culturally diverse faculty, staff and student community. We seek to recruit qualified and diverse candidates who will help us achieve our goal of creating an inclusive community that is welcoming to all people.

The School of Arts and Sciences centers on a strong liberal arts curriculum that reflects the current needs of students, society, and the job market, and offers over 40 undergraduate programs and 7 graduate programs.

The Manhattanville College Biology program is soliciting applications from qualified candidates holding a Ph.D. or terminal degree in Biology, or related fields (e.g. Ph.D., D.V.M., M.D.) to fill a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of Molecular Microbiology. The College particularly seeks to attract an active, culturally and academically diverse faculty. Appointment to the position will become effective as early as July 1, 2022. Full time biology professors teach 21 credits per year at the college.  This position will cover the teaching of undergraduate and graduate level classes and labs related to the field of Molecular Microbiology, including Microbiology, Genetics, and related courses such as Nutrition for both Biology majors and Nursing students, as well as student-centered research.  The department is dedicated to the academic and professional development of our undergraduate and graduate students, and the ideal candidate should be committed to working with underrepresented community populations, including working with organizations on campus such as the Mary T. Clark Center for Social Justice, and the Center for Inclusion.

The candidate will also be expected to develop coursework in introductory courses for non-science majors, as well as upper level elective and/ or masters-level courses and seminars within their specific research field or discipline.  Applicants preferably have some college-level teaching experience with microbiology and genetics.

The six full time faculty members of the Biology program strive to create a supportive environment and anticipate a reduced advising and committee workload during the first year of employment.
