Purpose:

The Wellness Center Counselor serves as a member of the Wellness Center team and shares team responsibilities. Provides counseling and mental health services to students individually and/or in a group setting. This includes the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of emotional and mental health disorders and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with the ethical and legal guidelines associated with ones mental health professional associations. Duties:
  • Individual counseling; maintaining documentation in student file in accordance with the Centers policies and ethical guidelines of mental health practice
  • Alcohol and Other Drug assessment/education
  • Collaboration with other campus support services
  • Crisis assessment, management, support, and intervention
  • On-call duty per rotation schedule with counseling staff
  • Staff training for campus constituencies:
  • Faculty/staff consultations/follow-up when appropriate
  • Prevention programming for mental health issues impacting this population: i.e., suicide, sexual violence, body image
  • Psycho-educational outreach to faculty, staff, and students
  • Staff meetings, record keeping, professional development
  • Other duties as assigned by position supervisor, line officer, or President
  • Contributes to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the department; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed.
Primary Contacts:

Wellness Center Director and Health Services staff, clients, Dean of Students, Coordinator of Residence Life staff; and other Student Affairs staff including Athletics, Supervision Exercised:

None Supervision Received:

Receives administrative supervision from Wellness Center
Director; Professional supervision arranged with appropriately licensed
supervisor if required by state or national licensing board.

Qualifications

Education:

Master's level degree in Clinical Counseling, Social Work(mental health track), or Counseling Psychology from an accredited program. Experience:

At least 2 years of clinical counseling experience in Higher Education. Experience with Chemical Dependency and Eating Disorders preferred. A demonstrated ability and commitment towards diversity, equity, and inclusion. Specialized Training:

Must have a valid independent clinical licensure in the state of Ohio with the ability to obtain independent licensure within one year of employment. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining independent licensure. Skills, Attributes Customer Service:

  • Demonstrates ability to work evening and weekend hours and be on 24-hour calls during assigned rotation

  • Develops and nurtures an effective, productive and respectful rapport and working relationship with clients, faculty and co-workers, and various campus and community constituencies maintaining appropriate level of professionalism
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, public speaking and organizational skills, a sense of humor, flexibility, and creativity
  • Demonstrates strong written, telephone, and electronic (email and internet) communication skills
  • Communicates information clearly and concisely and listen well to others
Accuracy:
  • Maintains a high level of accuracy, consistently reviewing work to detect errors, oversights or omissions

  • Demonstrates creativity and high energy
  • Accomplish tasks with follow through to completion
Technical:
  • Must possess aptitude for technological development and its implications for appropriate automation of office; proficient in Microsoft Office
