Campus Recreation, a unit within the Division of Student Life, is seeking applications for an Associate Director of Campus Recreation.
About the Opportunity
The Associate Director, Campus Recreation serves on the department three-person senior leadership team and:
- Assists the Director with the operational, financial and personnel functions of the Campus Recreation department.
- Serves as a central administrator for the buildings, programs/events, and services.
- Assists with strategic visioning for the department.
- Fosters an environment which is passionate about student development and the mentoring of young professionals.

- Wellness programs
- Assist the Director in managing, leading, and directing the operational, financial, and personnel functions for Campus Recreation programs and services.
- Collaborate with other Student Life units and University departments in cooperative program and facility development.
- Create an environment that inspires innovation and effective student development outcomes.
- Provide leadership and oversight in the development and operation of recreation programs for the overall campus community.
- Responsible for direct and indirect personnel management of department staff including recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, development, and discipline.
- Provide managerial and leadership experiences to full time and student staff in various aspects of program development, facility operations, and risk management.
- Serve as a backup in the management of all operational aspects of the facility.
- Provide leadership and oversight in the preparation, presentation, and implementation of the department budget to include managing and meeting expense and revenue goals.
Qualifications :
- A Master’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible, full time experience working in a college or university recreation environment with particular emphasis on a student development driven program, during which time the applicant has acquired and demonstrated the ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Demonstrated ability to work with students, student organizations, faculty/student committees, different government agencies, and community groups.
- Demonstrated ability to lead diverse groups of individuals employing flexibility in management techniques, appropriate to a variety of situations.
- Possess and apply an entrepreneurial approach to planning and problem solving.
- Knowledge and ability to manage multiple programs/events at multiple facilities, including, but not limited to, modern recreation centers, legacy buildings, natural grass and artificial turf fields as well as spaces leased from third parties.
- Knowledge and ability to effectively handle public relations.
- Strong time management and supervisory skills.
- Ability to creatively plan and budget programs.
- First Aid/CPR & AED certification (possess or obtain within 6 weeks of employment).
- NIRSA Registered Collegiate Recreational Sports Professional (RCRSP) or Certified Recreational Sports Specialist (CRSS) preferred.
- CPO/AFO (Certified Pool Operator/Aquatic Facility Operator) preferred.
