Oklahoma State University is accepting applicants for an Associate
Professor faculty position in Urban
Elementary Education within the School of Teaching, Learning and
Educational Sciences in the College
of Education and Human Sciences, beginning May 2022. The position
will be housed on the OSU-Tulsa
campus, a vibrant urban-serving R1 institution.
We are seeking an Associate Professor to join our award-winning and
collaborative group of scholars.
The Elementary Education faculty at Oklahoma State University share
a broad range of experiences,
research emphases, and pedagogical content knowledge. We have
taught in diverse elementary and
middle-level classrooms in urban and rural communities, and in
diverse communities with high rates of
poverty. We utilize a wide array of qualitative and quantitative
research methodologies in our efforts to
make meaningful contributions to teachers’ and students’ lives as
part of our land-grant mission. We
believe that the elementary classroom should provide socially and
personally relevant experiences for
children, based on culturally responsive and generative pedagogy in
knowledge of effective practices.
We serve our profession at the local, state, and national levels
through our professional organizations.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirements:
● An earned doctorate in Urban Education, Elementary Education, or
closely related area;
● A demonstrated record of scholarship that merits a tenured
faculty appointment as an associate
professor;
● Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion through urban
and equity-focused
teaching, service and/or research;
● Experience in culturally-sustaining pedagogies and building
communities of practice;
● Minimum of three years of successful, full-time K-8 teaching
experience in U.S. public schools in
urban settings
● Experience in working with K-8 students and families from diverse
backgrounds;
● Evidence of or demonstrated potential for highly effective
undergraduate and graduate
instruction in innovative instructional methodologies of
elementary-aged children;
● Experience within both theoretical and practical experience in
typical and atypical development
of children in the context of their families, cultures, and
communities;
● A record or plan for engagement in service that furthers the
land-grant mission of the University;
and
● Evidence of collegiality and collaboration at the higher
education levels and with public school
communities.
Preferred qualifications:
● Experience in innovative approaches to curriculum design and
field placement supervision;
● Experience in effective and engaging hybrid and/or online
teaching;
● Experience in active and successful recruitment and retention of
undergraduate and graduate
students, both nationally and internationally;
● Expertise in partnering with school and community partners and
professional learning
communities; and
● Demonstrated understanding of the needs of multiple, interacting
influences on children’s
development and learning concerning the intersection of culture and
learning; curriculum,
assessment techniques, and instructional approaches for K-8
children.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities for this faculty position include:
● Coordinating, collaborating, and launching the Urban Elementary
Education certification
program;
● Teaching undergraduate courses in urban education with a focus on
elementary education;
● Developing and implementing innovative strategies for the
effective recruitment and retention of
traditional and non-traditional students to the Urban Elementary
Education program;
● Facilitating field placements and supervising field placements of
teacher candidates;
● Collaborating with public schools and university faculty and
staff (Stillwater and Tulsa campuses)
to address the needs of children and educators as well as the
community; and,
● Engaging in professional service at the program, school,
university, national, and international
levels.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with experience
