About the University:

California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system. Since that time, the University has grown and developed into one of the premier public universities, not only in the California State University system, but also in the nation. About the Program:

The Mathematics Department at CSUCI has several programs: a BS in Mathematics with a choice between four tracks in Pure Math, Applied Math, Math Education, and Statistics, an MS in Mathematics, and minors in Mathematics, Statistics and Data Analysis, Foundational Mathematics, and Philosophy. The Mathematics Department is also responsible for teaching quantitative reasoning courses to the majority of First Year Students. Our faculty are actively engaged in curriculum development, research collaborations, grant acquisitions, student projects, and service to the campus and community. We encourage our faculty as they implement innovative, or evidence-based high impact practices, student-centered learning activities, and foster an inclusive learning environment. We support shared governance and a supportive and collaborative working environment.

About the Position:

Faculty in this position have the opportunity to grow the statistics and data science area of the department, teach a variety of statistics and data science courses, perform research including with undergraduate or graduate students, update and oversee the introductory statistics courses by implement modern statistics pedagogies, and develop connections and collaborations with local industry and community organizations.

Minimum Degree Requirements:

Ph.D. in Statistics or Mathematics by 8/17/2022.

Required Qualifications :
  • Ph.D. in Mathematics or Statistics or closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Evidence of on-going research activities in statistics and data analysis, including modeling.
  • Excellence in teaching statistics with a variety of methodologies.
  • Experience with modern statistical software such as R, SAS, Python, or JMP.
  • Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.
Preferred Qualifications :
  • Broadly trained, with the ability and interest in teaching a wide range of statistics and data analysis course.
  • Expertise in statistics and data analytics.
  • Familiarity with GAISE recommendations or other statistical pedagogy and their application.
  • Record of or plan for grant and contract acquisition.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary research and/or collaborations.
  • Plans to engage undergraduate or graduate students in research projects.
