About the University:

California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system. About the Program:

The mission of the Psychology program is to provide academic training in Psychology through a variety of approaches and perspectives. The Psychology Program exposes students to educational experiences that provide excellent training in Psychology and helps them meet program learning outcomes. Our coursework further prepares students to function in a world of diverse cultural, economic, ethnic, historical, and political viewpoints.

About the Position:

The Psychology Program (psych.csuci.edu/) at California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) invites applications for a Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor position with an expected start date of August 19, 2022. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in Psychology, with specialization in Cognitive Psychology or a Ph.D. in a related area (e.g., Cognitive Science). Post-doctoral research experience will be considered an asset and a commitment to excellence in teaching will be required. A successful candidate will be encouraged to develop and maintain a strong research program and engage undergraduate students of diverse, multicultural backgrounds in research. A successful record of undergraduate teaching demonstrating a commitment to student-centered high-impact practices and community engagement are desirable. All CSUCI faculty are expected to assume an active collegial role in the planning and governance of the institution through service on campus-wide, divisional, and Academic Senate committees. CSUCI seeks candidates with a proven commitment to an interdisciplinary, integrative, and innovative approach to teaching and learning, including the use of technology to improve student engagement and success in research, scholarship, and service.

Minimum Degree Requirements:

Ph.D. in Psychology, with specialization in Cognitive Psychology or a Ph.D. in a related field (e.g., Cognitive Science).

Required Qualifications:

• Applicants should have a doctoral degree in Psychology that focuses on Cognitive
  Psychology or a doctoral degree in a related area (e.g., Cognitive Science).
• Applicants should demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate courses in Cognitive
  Psychology.
• Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to working within a student-centered
  environment.
• Applicants should demonstrate the ability to involve undergraduate students in
  psychological research.
• Applicants should have an emerging record of scholarship appropriate to rank in the area
  of Cognitive Psychology.
• Applicants should demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching.
• Applicants should demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching.
• Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Post-doctoral research experience.
• Evidence of commitment and ability to work with psychologists of different specializations and faculty from other disciplines.
• Willingness to teach a broad spectrum of psychology courses.
• Experience in the use of innovative instructional strategies and technologies.
• Experience with developing and assessing curricula and programs in Psychology.
• At least one year of teaching Psychology at the university level.
• Experience with advising or mentoring students of diverse, multicultural backgrounds.

Responsibilities:

• The candidate hired for this position will be expected to teach 12 units per semester; meet with students during scheduled office hours; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; develop course syllabi; contribute to the design and organization of departmental course offerings; and keep up-to-date with theories as well as current applications and development of pedagogy in the field.
• This appointment may carry administrative duties such as producing teaching methodologies and materials; training others in instructional methods and design; and collaborating with department faculty in curriculum implementation, student support, and continuous program improvement.
• The candidate will be expected to develop an undergraduate-based research program in Cognitive Psychology or in a related field.
• The candidate will be expected to advise and mentor students of diverse, multicultural backgrounds.
• This appointed faculty will be expected to participate in routine services to the department, college, and the University.
