About the University:

California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system. About the Program:

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Studies (ECS) prepares CI students to work effectively with young children from birth through eight years of age and their families. Our program develops the knowledge and skills necessary to work with the youngest community members, including the embedding of substantive training in language acquisition and literacy for early childhood Dual Language Learners across the program. In completing the major, ECS students acquire the competencies to serve young children including dual language learners and children with special needs within the natural settings of home, community, and schools. The academic program offers core curricula and fieldwork in early childhood development and pedagogy while highlighting family engagement in the context of family, culture, language, and society. Upon completion of the BA in Early Childhood Studies, graduates are eligible for the Child Development Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).

About the Position:

Teaching courses and supervising student teachers in the Early Childhood Studies Program in the School of Education.

Courses will include a variety of offerings in Early Childhood Studies with a focus on young children from birth through age 8 with a special focus on dual language learners.

Particular Areas of Need are:

• Dual Language Learners
• Student Teacher Supervisors (Infants/Toddlers and Preschool/Primary)
• Special Education or Early Intervention

Minimum Degree Requirements:

Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Curriculum and Instruction or related area.

Required Qualifications :

• Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Curriculum and Instruction or related area (if related area must have graduate course work in early childhood or child development).
• Three years of teaching experience as lead teacher in early childhood classrooms (ages 0-8).
• For Dual Language Learners experience teaching young dual language learners.
• For Special Education experience teaching in Special Education or Inclusion classrooms.
• Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.

Preferred Qualifications :

• Bilingual (Spanish/English)
• Experience teaching adult learners
• Experience with teaching on-line

Responsibilities:

• Teach early childhood courses in particular one that focuses on dual language learners
• Teach synchronous, asynchronous, face-to-face and/or hybrid
• Use Canvas as main platform for teaching and communication
• Prepare syllabus, course schedule and offer office hours as required by the university

• A teaching philosophy describing how you plan to engage and interact with students, with a special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander, and American Indian students.
