About the University:

California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system. Since that time, the University has grown and developed into one of the premier public universities, not only in the California State University system, but also in the nation. Indeed, U.S. News & World Report listed CSUCI as 20th among “Top Public Schools” in its 2021 edition of Best Colleges Rankings. CSUCI is a public comprehensive university that engages students in critical inquiry and is dedicated to educating leaders for a global society. The University is located in Ventura County and is home to more than 6,900 undergraduate and 239 graduate students. Approximately 55% of CSUCI’s students are Pell Grant eligible, and approximately 62% are first-generation college students. About the Program:

The mission of the Health Science Program at CSUCI is to prepare future health professionals who are competent, compassionate, creative, critical thinkers, to address health disparities in our diverse communities. Our vision is to create a just and equitable world of physically, mentally, and socially healthy people and communities.

Our interdisciplinary degree program is designed to prepare students for professional careers in private and public sectors through rigorous training in health sciences. The curriculum includes a set of core courses and several elective courses that each student chooses from in consultation with an advisor.

About the Position:

The Health Sciences Program at CSUCI invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level with expertise in health policy and administration. This position entails embracing a teacher-scholar model, and maintaining excellence in teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity in the Health Sciences Program, University, profession, and community. Demonstrating expertise in health policy and administration practice and research, while teaching diverse students and curriculum across the Health Sciences field are valued. Candidates from historically underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.

Minimum Degree Requirements:

An earned doctorate or terminal degree in a health-related field from an accredited university (or equivalent) is required. Applicants who have completed their doctorate coursework and exams (ABD) will be considered, but they must have their degree by 8/17/2022 .

Required Qualifications :
  • Documented expertise in health policy and administration through scholarship and/or practice.
  • Strong record of research and teaching in health policy and administration.
  • Ability to teach broadly across the existing Health Sciences curriculum.
  • Record of scholarly publications and/or scholarship progress.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.
Preferred Qualifications :
  • Commitment to a teacher-scholar model, integrating research, teaching, and service.
  • Ability to incorporate undergraduate students into their research plans and trajectory.
  • Evidence of engagement with the local community as well as other diverse communities through research and/or service.
Responsibilities:
  • Teach courses across the curriculum in Health Sciences.
  • Conduct scholarship and/or creative activities in policy and administration
  • Develop a strong research trajectory and publish scholarly work.
  • Provide service to the Health Sciences Program, University, profession, and broader community.
  • Advise diverse undergraduate Health Science students, particularly those from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds, students with disabilities and from underserved communities.

  • A statement describing your experience mentoring and/or working with minoritized students with a special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander and American Indian students, and
  • A teaching philosophy describing how you plan to engage and interact with students, with a special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander, and American Indian students.
