Statement of Job:

The USM School of Social Work is seeking part time faculty members to teach one or more of the following courses for our upcoming Spring Semester that run from January 18, 2022, to May 6, 2022 at the undergraduate and graduate level:

Methods of Social Work Practice (SWO 393): an introduction to the basic concepts and skills of interviewing and assessment within social work paradigms. Emphasis will be placed on the integration of ethics and the process of reflection within a generalist practice of social work

Social Welfare Policy (SWO 504): an overview of the history of social welfare as well as an introduction to current social policy issues and dilemmas. Emphasis is placed on historical continuities in analyzing the American system of social welfare provision and lack of provision.

Generalist Social Work Practice (SWO 553): further develops students' values, knowledge, and skills for planned change with a particular focus on work with populations of special concern to social work. The course content emphasizes practice within organizations and communities.

Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. In addition, USM employees can use their USM Card to access the library, Cigna Employee Assistance Plan, and fitness center (s). USM also offers part-time faculty the opportunity for development frequently through our Center for Collaboration and Development (CCD) and the chance to get an online teaching certification and training through CTEL, in addition to other developmental opportunities open to all staff throughout the year.

Qualifications:
  • An earned MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited social work program.
  • A minimum two years post-MSW practice experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the content area of the course to be taught.
  • Prior teaching experience and/or supervisory experience in social work.
