Assistant Professor to fill a non-tenure-accruing position for a renewable three-year contractual period, beginning Fall 2022. Renewals are subject to performance. We are seeking a candidate with an interest in teaching rigorous, lab-based biology courses to primarily non-science majoring students and who is eager to participate in our Honors community. Their research should complement research presently undertaken within the Biology department and/or within the wider GW community (including but not limited to areas such as climate change, environmental science, biology-focused conservation, or biological education research), and should ideally offer opportunities to involve undergraduates.

Basic Qualifications: The successful candidate must currently hold a Ph.D. in Biology or related field by date of appointment, have excellent teaching skills as demonstrated by teaching evaluations, teaching assistantships, or references, be able to design innovative courses focused on cutting-edge topics, and have a desire to teach at the undergraduate level. ABD applicants will be considered but must complete all requirements for the Ph.D. or Doctoral degree by date of appointment.

Responsibilities include teaching five classes per year (four within the University Honors Program and one for the Biology Department) plus a short capstone course. The successful applicant may expect to play a leadership role in developing and assessing the Honors science curriculum. We encourage applications from individuals with experience in interdisciplinary science education and active-learning. The UHP is committed to building and sustaining a community that is supportive and inclusive of all individuals. We encourage applicants to describe their own experience with and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in their cover letter or teaching statement.

Application Procedure: To apply please complete and online application at and submit a letter of application, CV, a brief statement of teaching objectives and methods, along with summaries of teaching evaluations and/or classroom observations, and no more than three samples of scholarly publications. Only complete applications will be considered. Please have 3 letters of reference sent to The George Washington University Honors Program Science Search Chair, 714 21st Street, NW Washington, DC 20052 or email to (please include "Honors Program Science Search" in the subject line). Review of applications will begin on January 3, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled.
