Job Description:
Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in special education in person and online. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: teaching courses in special education, supervising clinical experiences, advising students, and participating in departmental and university initiatives.
  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twenty four (24) credits of instruction per academic year.



  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified.

  • May be expected to develop and deliver face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line instruction at the Mankato campus, online, and/or at the university's additional locations, as assigned.

  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.

  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement)

  • This position will supervise/advise graduate students.




Required Qualifications:
  • Doctorate or terminal degree in Special Education or a related area. (If ABD, degree must be conferred on an official transcript and received in Human Resources by August 14, 2023.)



  • Special education license eligible.

  • A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in PK-12 setting with students with disabilities.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.



  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching college or university-level classes.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach using technology in the classroom and/or online course delivery.

  • Experience in supporting teacher candidates in clinical experiences.

  • Experience in and ability to form collaborative working partnerships with colleagues, public school teachers and school districts in the context of a teacher preparation program.

  • Evidence of commitment to professional growth and professional organizational involvement.

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and sustain an active research agenda.

  • Scholarly and/or professional experiences promoting equity and social justice in schools.

  • Evidence of scholarly activity, including publications and/or professional presentations.

  • Knowledge of current trends in special education and teacher preparation.

  • Ability to work successfully with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.



Other Requirements:
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.

The special education department offers undergraduate (online and in-person) and graduate (online) licensure and degree programs. The undergraduate program leads students to being licensed eligible for MN ABS license. The graduate program leads students to being licensed eligible for ASD, DcD, EBD, ECSE, or SLD.
