Job Description

Virginia Tech’s Office of Export and Secure Research Compliance (OESRC) is seeking to fill an Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO) for multiple programs executed out of the Blacksburg, VA home office.

As the AFSO, you will work closely with OESRC security management to ensure compliance with U.S. Government directives, regulations and requirements, as well as university policies and procedures and customer-directed requirements. The AFSO manages all aspects of the National Industrial Security Program (NISP) and reports to the home office Contractor Special Security Officer (CSSO).

This position is located in Blacksburg, VA and is a full-time, salaried, benefited position supporting a portfolio of programs and not single-contract-based work.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with significant training and/or progressive professional experience in lieu of an advance degree or Master’s degree in Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or other related field
• Must be a U.S. Citizen due to the nature and sensitivity of the work responsibilities.
• Must have an active Top Secret Clearance with Tier 5 investigation (T5) (within 6 years) and SCI eligibility.
• Experience with DOD security processing systems such as DISS, NISS, e-QIP, SWFT.

This position is located in Blacksburg, VA. Work is mostly on-site with some opportunity for telework.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check as well as documentation of COVID-19 vaccination or receive approval from the university for a vaccination exemption due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief.
