About the Opportunity:
The Northeastern University Facilities Management Division is seeking an University Fire Marshall to join our administrative team. Providing 24-Hour Service to Northeastern University's Community, the Facilities Management Division is responsible for maintaining and improving Northeastern's facilities and grounds; promoting an attractive, safe, clean, and sustainable campus environment. Through our efforts we help Northeastern meet the goals and aspirations needed to advance itself and remain a leader in global experiential learning. The Facilities Management Division is a service-oriented organization whose mission is to be the most progressive and efficient organization that, through specialized expertise, innovation, and teamwork, maximizes the potential for Northeastern to achieve its goals. Our work falls into several key categories, including design and construction, facilities operations, sustainability and facilities services.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the AVP for Facilities Operations, the University Fire Marshall must have demonstrated the ability to take direction and adapt to a fast-paced fluid environment with ever changing priorities and schedules. The University Fire Marshall shall review, prioritize and assign all Fire Safety related work orders and maintain a record of completed work. Must have the ability to develop contingency plans based on changing schedules, workloads and University
requirements and emergencies. Monitor all university fire alarm panels and fire protection systems. Plan, schedule and track all required Fire Alarm / Fire protection system inspections, maintain records of all completed inspections. The University Fire Marshall shall be technically proficient with operating, troubleshooting and repairs to Fire alarm & Fire protection systems. Be able to identify system issues, recommend appropriate repairs and solutions. The University Fire Marshall shall develop Request for Proposals (RFP's) for all contract bid work, analyze bid documents, award contract work, write purchase orders, review and approve invoices, maintain and track purchase order balances. Develop an annual Fire Safety budget pertaining to contract vendors, staff salaries, projected overtime, required inspections, emergency calls & part time student employment.

The University Fire Marshall shall coordinate with Facilities project design teams to review and provide input fire alarm & fire protection plans. Attend project coordination meetings and make recommendations pertaining to fire alarm / Life Safety Systems. They must have the ability to read and interpret Fire alarm / fire protection plans, specifications and Fire Alarm sequence of operations and review submittals. The University Fire Marshall shall conduct regular construction/project observation site visits where “Hot Work” permits are issued to perform visual safety inspections. Ensure all activities are in adherence to OSHA rules and regulations, and compliance with site-specific safety requirements. Review and make recommendations to project teams regarding all proposed Fire Alarm modifications to ensure compliance with NU and other applicable standards.

The University Fire Marshall will coordinate with Risk Services on fire prevention and insurance related inspections and recommendations as well as coordinate with the Office of Emergency Management for training, documentation of training, preparedness and continuity.

At completion of construction and projects, the University Fire Marshall will review the “as Built” Fire alarm / Fire Protection drawings against the project specifications for completeness and upload into the Facilities “data archives”. The University Fire Marshall shall be designated as the University Fire Prevention Program Manager “FPPM” as defined in NFPA 241. The Fire Safety University Fire Marshall is responsible to plan, coordinate, conduct and document quarterly fire drills /egress training at all University owned facilities in Massachusetts.

The University Fire Marshall will set standards for regional campuses, act as a resource for regional campus safety/operations personnel and annually audit regional campuses for compliance with university and other applicable fire safety policies and codes.

The University Fire Marshall will act as a liaison with applicable state and local fire departments and fire agencies. They are responsible for securing proper investigations (in conjunction with NUPD and state and local authorities) as well as for reporting hazards, injuries and losses internally including to NUPD, Facilities and Risk Services.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Fire science, Fire Protection system design, Engineering or other related field and a class “D” Electrician's license to work on & program fire alarm panels. Must be a self-starter who takes direction and works independently with minimal supervision. Must have a thorough knowledge of the following NFPA codes. NFPA-1, 13, 25, 72 and NFPA 241 requirements. A minimum of 10 years maintaining, installing, troubleshooting and repairing Fire alarm, Fire Protection, Fire pump systems. Ability to prioritize and successfully manage multiple projects & staff concurrently. Excellent computer skills with the ability/desire to learn new software programs. Excellent organizational skills and ability to take direction and follow through on tasks from inception to closure. Must be team oriented, possess strong organization, interpersonal, and communication skills; both written and verbal.
