A postdoctoral fellow position is immediately available in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences to work on an anti-viral drug discovery project. The project involves a collaboration between three laboratories in the University of Maryland Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy that are using computer-aided drug design to identify and test new small molecule inhibitors of viral replication. Several compounds have been identified and are being tested for interactions with host proteins involved in viral replication and antiviral activity against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2/COVID19), as well as Influenza virus.

Position Summary:

The position requires experience in recombinant protein expression systems using bacterial, mammalian, or insect cells. Experience with various biophysical techniques, such as differential scanning fluorimetry and surface plasmon resonance, and cell culture methods is also desired.

Qualifications :

Education, Experience and Skills Required for Consideration:
  • Ph.D.in Biochemistry, Molecular or Cellular Biology, Chemistry, or related field
  • Expertise with recombinant protein expression and cell culture systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • Independently collect and analyze data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
