Two Lecturers in Psychology

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking TWO full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track Lecturers in Psychology to teach in the primarily in-person (campus immersion) undergraduate and graduate psychology programs, as well as their online (digital immersion) counterpart programs. The anticipated start date is Fall 2022.  Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in statistics and research methods, as well as one or more of the following general areas of psychology: cognitive, cultural, social, affective, developmental, biological/physiological, health, or clinical/counseling. Teaching loads for these positions are typically 12 credits per semester (a 4/4 load), with opportunities for summer teaching. Teaching represents 80% of the workload; the remaining 20% is covered by service.

 About the School:

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is presently in a period of expansion and innovation around new initiatives and programs in Psychology, including cognition, behavior, and information, resilience in social environments, and forensic psychology. The School is home to digital and campus immersion-based undergraduate and Master’s programs in Psychology and Forensic Psychology and a doctoral program in Law and Psychology.

 Essential Functions of the Position:

• Primarily teach in-person courses in relevant areas of psychology
• Effectively teach, supervise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
• Assist with program-related administrative duties
• Engage in service activities to support the unit, college, and university

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have:

• A doctoral degree in Psychology or a related field by the time of appointment
• Experience with in-person teaching
• A record reflecting experience teaching at the postsecondary level in the field of psychology

 Desired Qualifications:  

Preference will be given to candidates who have:

• Educational background and/or research or clinical experience in statistics and research methods
• Expertise in one or more of the following general areas of psychology: cognitive, cultural, social, affective, developmental, biological/physiological, health, or clinical/counseling
• Demonstrated ability to teach broadly in psychology
• Experience and demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including first generation and non-traditional college students
• Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas
• Experience developing new courses
• A willingness to teach in both the campus-based and online programs
• Demonstrated familiarity with planning and supervising learning experiences for undergraduate and/or graduate students
• Experience providing mentoring to undergraduate and/or graduate students
• Experience developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating curricula
• Familiarity with training and supervising course/teaching assistants
• Evidence of teaching excellence
• Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills
