The Faculty of Science and Mathematics in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts at the Polytechnic Campus at Arizona State University invites applications for a Chemistry Lecturer for the 2021-2022 academic year. The successful candidate will provide instruction in the area of introductory and general chemistry; develop course syllabi; write, assign, and grade student assessments, and laboratory experiments; review and evaluate effectiveness of teaching methods and work activities; and work with faculty in curriculum development, planning, and implementation. Course assignments are at the undergraduate level and may involve other chemistry subdisciplines depending on program needs. 

The course load is determined by the faculty head and typically consists of 12 credit hours per semester.  The teaching load may include a combination of lecture, recitation, and lab sections. Course load and composition is determined by the faculty head. This is an academic-year appointment with an expected start date of January 2022. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in service to the institution and profession as appropriate. This is a full‐time, benefits‐eligible, non‐tenure eligible position renewable on an academic year basis contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Candidate must reside in Arizona, or be willing to relocate.

The Science and Mathematics faculty support students in three degree programs and one graduate program in the sciences and mathematics fields. We also offer three minors and one certificate. We have faculty conducting research in chemistry, physics, biology, and applied mathematics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in Chemistry or related field at time of appointment
  • Two years of post‐secondary teaching in general chemistry
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness
  • Evidence of a commitment to meeting the needs of diverse/underrepresented student and/or community populations via teaching/mentoring or service

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching a wide variety of chemistry courses at the undergraduate level, including laboratories
  • Experience training and/or supervising teaching assistants in lab/recitation instruction
  • Demonstrated commitment to mentoring undergraduate students in lower division courses through research or nontraditional learning-based projects
  • Evidence of innovative classroom instruction and curriculum development
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide service to the program and university, as well as to the community and profession
