Job Description:

Champlain College has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Operations Coordinator to join the team. This is a part-time role at 28 hrs per week through June of 2022 with the potential to renew. This position works with both the Emergent Media Center (EMC) and The Champlain Maker Program at Generator.

 

The EMC is a multidisciplinary creative studio at Champlain College that provides employment and internship opportunities for students to apply what they're learning to real-world projects. Students are guided by faculty and staff to conceptualize, prototype, and produce innovative solutions to a wide range of media and design challenges. As part of its mission to embrace emerging technologies and prototyping, the EMC supports and manages Champlain's partnership with Generator, Burlington's community maker space located just across the parking lot.

 

The Champlain Maker Program at Generator increases the scope of maker experiences for students, faculty, and staff by offering the Champlain community access to a variety of hand, power, and electronic tools-including a 3D printer, 3D scanner, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, and sewing machines, as well as a woodshop, metal shop, electronics studio, and jewelry studio. Within Generator is the Flex Space, a flexible space shared by Champlain and Generator for classes and events. The Flex Space also serves as a place for students, faculty, and staff to work on projects.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Managing student workers at the Emergent Media Center and Generator
    • Hiring and scheduling
    • Training and supervising Generator and EMC Lab Techs
    • Managing the Champlain Maker Program at Generator
    • Serving as a community liaison between Champlain and Generator
    • Planning, coordinating, and implementing the process for Champlain College-sponsored Generator (CC-G) memberships
    • Communicating CC-G membership application policies and processes to Champlain staff, faculty, and students.
    • Moving CC-G memberships through the approval and onboarding process; providing orientation for CC-G members.
    • Coordinating Champlain guest maker access to Generator
    • Working with CC faculty/staff to schedule classroom sessions and other activities at Generator in coordination with Generator's event calendar
    • Maintaining and communicating Generator's policies & procedures and membership agreements to the Champlain community
  • Maintaining and overseeing the workspaces at the EMC and in the Flex Space
    • Monitoring and purchasing supplies for student use
    • Working with Generator to ensure that the Flex Space is in working order
    • Managing EMC tech equipment inventory and circulation processes
    • Working with Champlain IS department to maintain computer workstations

  • flexible and adaptive to dynamically changing environments.
  • a maker who knows your way around a variety of tools including 3-D printers and laser cutters AND has an interest in learning new tools (we will train you!).
