Job Summary
The Accountant assists the Bursar’s Office with reconciliations and data analysis to inform decision making. Develops and maintains a thorough understanding of all departmental policies and procedures to support operations and communication efforts. Maintains accuracy of accounts receivable data by reviewing transactions and recording journal entries. Assists with audit workpapers and supports fiscal year-end close activities. Maintains extensive knowledge of applicable regulations, such as FERPA, PCI, GLB and reporting requirements such as IRS Form 1098-T. Assists with regular testing of information systems and software enhancements. The Accountant also assists the Director, Bursar Operations, with reviewing systems and processes and the development of goals and objectives for the department.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting or Business.
Two years accounting or related business experience.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Effective time and resource management skills.
Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, and implement appropriate solutions.
Demonstrated ability to complete work with accuracy and thoroughness required.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to effectively use integrated administrative computer systems and train users.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Accounting or Business.
Previous student account experience.
Experience with Banner and TouchNet.
Experience in higher education.
Customer service experience.
