We have 60 DSW students who are employed fulltime while working on their doctorates and who are located all over the country and abroad. Our DSW program in advanced clinical practice and leadership/management prepares them to become advanced practitioner-scholars who are able to translate research into practice, teach in academic settings and assume leadership positions to advance social justice in policies and programs at local, state, and national levels.

It is an exciting time to join the College of Social Work at the University of Tennessee, which has campuses in Knoxville and Nashville. We have committed ourselves to furthering anti-oppressive education. The College is committed to creating an equity-minded work and learning environment, to tackling issues of equity and inclusion, and to advancing opportunities for all individuals regardless of race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation, or physical/developmental ability. Grounded in social, racial, and economic justice, the College faculty are committed to scholarship, education, and service that addresses the Grand Challenges of Social Work, including areas such as the social determinants of health and health disparities, trauma-informed approaches to care, gerontology, animal-human bonds and veterinary social work, forensic social work and prevention science.

DSW program goals include: Being a leader in the new CSWE standards for accreditation of DSW programs and revising our curriculum based on evolving standards for universal design and inclusion. We are seeking a practitioner-scholar, who can oversee DSW students’ research projects and teach in our clinical or leadership/management sequence of courses, as well as contribute to course development and design. Mentored research projects employ either quantitative and qualitative methods and examples include: Program evaluation, quality improvement, secondary data analysis, policy implementation and cultural competency trainings. Courses in the management research sequence include: clinical leadership, clinical management and individual and group practice with diverse populations.

With over 700 students enrolled in undergraduate, MSW, DSW, and PhD programs in Knoxville, Nashville, and online, the College is preparing highly qualified social workers to work with diverse client populations. They are also trained to address areas of need in their own community context.
