Assistant Professor Tenure Track – Cyberpsychology

 

Position Summary

 

 

The Cyberpsychology Program in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the New Jersey Institute of Technology seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member at the level of assistant professor.

Cyberpsychology is the study of the impact, dynamic processes, and outcomes that digital technologies have enabled in individuals, groups, and wider society. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in psychology, social science, or a closely related discipline and are expected to have both prior teaching experience and a recognized record of scholarly work commensurate with the level of appointment. Areas of specialization can include, but are not limited to: social media, virtual reality/ augmented reality, games and gaming, cyborgs, artificial intelligence, telepsychology, virtual interest groups, online-identity formation, digital addiction, cyberbullying, digital learning, and social network analysis. Key criteria for selection will include capacity to actively engage in research and scholarship, participate in externally funded research, and demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education for diverse student populations. Application packages should include a letter outlining background and expertise, curriculum vita, statement of research and teaching interests, a writing sample or publication, and names of at least three references. The successful candidate can expect a competitive salary as well as support in the form of start-up research funding. Review of applications will begin on November 15, 2021, and continue until the position is filled.

 

Essential Functions

 

The successful candidate is expected to establish an active, externally funded research program and to demonstrate excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching. Duties will include delivering lecture courses and/or administering labs, actively pursuing opportunities for external research funding, advising student researchers, and participating in outreach to recruit a diverse population of high-quality undergraduate and graduate students.

 

Prerequisite Qualifications

 

Ph.D. in psychology, social science, or closely related discipline from an accredited institution. At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
