Position Summary:

The AMTC Outreach Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that students begin a promising career by leading the proactive job placement efforts of the AMTC. The role of the Outreach Coordinator is multifaceted, simultaneously developing extensive cooperative and collaborative relationships with our catchment area manufacturing communities while cementing relationships with local high schools, Industry Advisory Partners and various municipal and community organizations. Student success is supported through internships, job placement, and State apprentice opportunities that have been nurtured by the Outreach Coordinator with industry partners. This individual is also instrumental in creating ties with principals, staff, and counselors at high schools, middle schools, and grammar schools across both Fairfield and New Haven counties in order to drive interest in manufacturing and create pipelines into the AMTC. The Outreach Coordinator plays a role in connecting with the Department of Labor through organizations such as The Workplace, Mercy Learning Center, Home for the Brave, WorkForce Alliance and Boys and Girls Clubs supporting the continued success of the student through the AMTC program at HCC.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student body. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:
  • One (1) or more years of manufacturing experience.
  • Possess existing, well-developed relationships with local manufacturers.
  • Professional experience in presenting and marketing.
  • Professional experience in sales.
  • Working knowledge of industrial lingo and the process of just in time, and customer needs and lean manufacturing.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • One (1) or more years’ experience working in a college or university setting.
  • Experience collaborating with department chairs and faculty members.
Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Department Chair, Program Coordinator or other administrator, the AMTC Outreach Coordinator is accountable for the following:
  • Contact manufacturing companies to form and cultivate solid relationships as partners in industry for student access to internships and job placement upon program completion
  • Cold call on manufacturing companies in order to introduce the AMTC as a resource to support their industrial needs
  • Coordinate tours both at manufacturer facilities and at Housatonic Community College
  • Present the AMTC program at any number of venues across the district
  • Attend NHMA and, when necessary, Board of Ed meetings
  • Coordinate Quarterly Industry Advisory Meetings
  • Attend TTAC meetings from local trade schools where support would be beneficial to both parties
  • Coordinate with CONNSTEP for employee reimbursement incentives for OJT costs
  • Facilitate internship opportunities for AMTC students after completion of their first semester
  • Schedule interviews for internships and track results
  • Acquire feedback from employers regarding the progress of pacing students within their company
  • Actively cultivate full-time hiring of all AMTC graduates and impending graduates through channels such as Job Fairs, email connections, communications and resources that the outreach coordinator has created
  • Maintain relationship with Department of Labor and it’s organizations
The AMTC Outreach Coordinator must be flexible and available to work on occasional evenings with adjustment made to their schedule to stay within the maximum 17hrs/week schedule.
