The Department of Physiology at the University of Arizona is accepting applications from dedicated educators for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (DOE) faculty position with a start date as early as January 2022. Teaching faculty are critical to the department’s mission and are appointed with the expectation of long-term employment. Lecturers at all ranks teach both core and elective undergraduate courses and actively participate in departmental faculty meetings, decision-making, and service. The Lecturer/Sr. Lecturer teaching track is non-tenure-eligible but offers a well-defined promotion path. The selected candidate will teach in a large undergraduate course in human anatomy & physiology each semester and during the summer and teach other core courses or elective courses in human physiology. The department is seeking an individual who can work with diverse students, trainees and colleagues, and who has experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.

 As of Fall 2021, the Department of Physiology consists of 28 faculty members, including 10 Career-Track faculty (three Associate Professors, one Lecturer, six Senior Lecturers). The Department has a long history of excellent undergraduate and graduate instruction and research accomplishment with a diverse and enthusiastic student body.

Teaching and Coordinating responsibilities:

  • Teach or co-teach Human Anatomy and Physiology I (PSIO 201) during fall, spring and summer in person or online depending on department needs.
  • Teach or co-teach Human Anatomy and Physiology II (PSIO 202) during fall, spring, and summer in person or online depending on department needs.
  • Develop and teach PSIO 295R (Exploring Physiological Research) or another elective course.
  • Develop course materials using evidence-based teaching practices
  • Communicate and collaborate with the PSIO 201 and PSIO 202 course directors and lab coordinators.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in a biological science field AND two years of teaching experience including online teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in physiology or related field AND three years of experience teaching undergraduate students including online teaching experience. *Good computer skills, including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
  • Familiarity with online teaching programs (Panopto, PlayPosit, etc), anatomy apps, software and other resources that can be incorporated into the Human Anatomy and Physiology course.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, with individuals and groups.
  • Experience in course development.
  • Great organizational skills.
