*Two (2) years teaching, learning, or training related experience.

Preferred qualifications:
Preference will be given to individuals who possess :
* Experience with academic needs of students with different cultural backgrounds and educational prerequisites including developmental education

* Thorough knowledge of current theories and technology used in learning assistance centers

* Demonstrated understanding of the community college mission and adult learning styles

* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other employees at all levels

* Ability to think critically and make decisions

* Supervisory experience (ability to manage processes and people, hiring and training staff)

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Work Hours
Normally scheduled Monday through Friday; however, may be required to work other shifts to include evenings and/or weekends. Schedule subject to change based upon department needs. Class Summary
This is the second level in the Learning Support series. Incumbents coordinate and supervise the day-to-day functions of the Learning Center and ensure appropriate academic support is available to students. Major duties and responsibilities include: supervising, training, and evaluating subordinate staff; communicating with students, instructors, and faculty to identify needs; monitoring progress of students and developing new programs and services to support student academic success; partnering with other college departments and committees on projects to enhance student success; collecting and analyzing data, preparing and reviewing report to improve the quality of learning center service.

Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; approving time sheets; conducting performance evaluations; coordinating staff training; and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.
Manages the operations of an assigned center to include managing schedules of the Center, tutoring, supplemental instruction, and staff; communicating with and responding to complaints from students, staff, and faculty; addressing student, tutor, faculty, and other relevant stakeholder needs; and providing referrals.
Monitors progress of students and develops new programs and services, including workshops, presentations, and tutor programs, to support student academic success; work may involve collaborating with faculty and other student services staff to coordinate and facilitate operations.
Collaborates with faculty, staff, students, administrators, and other internal and external personnel, departments, and/or agencies, and attends committee and other meetings, conferences, and workshops, to address student needs and academic deficiencies, improve process delivery, communicate information, represent the department, provide recommendations, remain current on new practices and trends, establish partnerships, and/or facilitate daily departmental operations.
Prepares, reviews, and maintains reports, records, and other documentation to improve the quality of learning center service; work may involve collecting and analyzing data, to facilitate scheduling and program development activities.
Maintains the department inventory and manages the departmental budget, to include inspecting inventories, maintaining accurate reports, approving purchase requests, preparing cost estimates, and managing expenditures.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Learning Specialists Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
