Associate/Full Professor of Theatre and Chair of Theatre

The Department of Theatre in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College invites applications for a senior position as chairperson of the Department beginning August 1, 2022. Appointment will be at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. A terminal degree in theatre (Ph.D. or MFA) is required, and candidates must have a demonstrated record of success in a leadership position, ideally as a department chairperson or program coordinator. Applicants should have evidence of a strong teaching and scholarly and/or creative production record. We are particularly interested in teacher-scholars whose expertise is in acting performance or directing. Interest in, and ability to provide leadership for, our new Race and Ethnic Studies minor will be weighed in a candidate’s favor.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic, innovative leader who has the ability to work collaboratively with faculty from a wide variety of disciplines and with College personnel in many cognate areas. Theatre training at North Central College prepares students for early careers in Chicago’s competitive entertainment industry, as well as providing a broad liberal arts background. The chairperson will serve as managing director of a theatre season of 6-8 productions per year, which contributes to a vibrant campus culture. Primary responsibilities of the department chairperson include mentoring and evaluating faculty, budgeting, recruiting, staffing, assessment, and providing curricular leadership for an ambitious theatre program with three tracks: Theatre, Musical Theatre, and Theatrical Design and Technology. We especially value applicants who engage with ethical theatre-making by integrating critical theory with practice.

We value diversity and are committed to social justice, equity, and inclusiveness. Experience working with diverse student populations or communities is especially valued.
