The Department of Education at Elmhurst University in the greater Chicago area invites applications for a full-time professional-track position in fall of 2022. Responsibilities include leadership for the Elementary Education program, teaching undergraduate courses in elementary  education, coordinating student teaching seminars and university supervisors, advising, and supervising elementary education student teachers.    

The Department of Education offers 14 undergraduate and 2 graduate programs and is a member of AACTE. The education programs are accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education. The  University's enrollments total approximately 3,000 students of which approximately 300 are pursuing studies in education. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Meet with prospective licensure students and families prior to entering programs 
  • Meet regularly with department administration; update program materials and maintain student records
  • Interview and hire adjuncts; coordinate course responsibilities 
  • Interview and select field supervisors;host workshops for supervisors 
  • Coordinate student teaching seminars and field placements; monitor student performance and make visits to field placements as needed.
  • Coordinate completion of edTPA 
  • Coordinate instructors and scheduling of courses
  • Teach undergraduate courses; advise undergraduate students
  • Participate in service within the department, college, university, community, state,and professional organizations
  • Foster partnerships with local school districts

 Qualifications:

Candidates should have an earned doctorate and at least ten years of contemporary experience as a certified teacher or administrator in accredited U.S. schools. Experience as an elementary school (K-5) teacher is an essential qualification.  The successful candidate will provide evidence of effective administrative, teaching, and collaboration skills. Applicants should demonstrate strong curriculum and assessment skills and the ability to provide leadership for the continued accreditation of the elementary education program.  Applicants would be expected to be active professionally (e.g., professional organizations, conference presentations, professional development, grant writing) and hold advanced knowledge of research-based practices.  We believe diversity of viewpoints and experiences provides a richer educational environment.  Our faculty welcomes applicants whose personal backgrounds or teaching experiences reflect underrepresented groups of teachers and learners.
