Full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Communication Studies with a specialization in Sports Communication.

Description:

The Department of Communication Studies in the Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts at Rowan University welcomes applications for a full-time (10-month) tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor, to join the department September 1, 2022.

The successful candidate will specialize in Sports Communication and teach in the Department of Communication Studies, as well as the College's Sports Communication and Media (Sports CaM) major. This interdisciplinary major brings together offerings from four departments in the College, including Communication Studies; Journalism; Public Relations & Advertising; and Radio, Television & Film.

Along with core Communication Studies courses, the successful candidate will teach courses in the Sports CaM major, including Sports Communication, Culture, & Identity, Rhetoric of Sport, and Images of Athletes in Popular Culture, as well as Senior Seminar in Sports Communication and Media. There is also room for the successful candidate to develop courses in their areas of expertise.

The successful candidate will be expected to play an active role as the Communication Studies representative for the Center for Sports Communication & Social Impact housed within the Edelman CCCA.

As a department with a strong history of teaching excellence, we seek a colleague who values and excels in teaching. This tenure track position also carries an expectation of successful scholarly research and publication, with efforts to seek external funding. In addition, the successful candidate will be asked to contribute to the department, college, and university through service including, but not limited to, mentoring of students, curriculum development, and program assessment. There is likewise an expectation for service to the wider professional community.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in communication studies with experience teaching at the collegiate level. Candidates with Ph.D. in related disciplines and/or ABD candidates with dissertation nearing completion will also be considered. The terminal degree is required at the time of appointment. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis.
