Shenandoah University’s Center for International Programs is accepting applications for an International Programs Coordinator. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

Shenandoah University’s Center for International Programs (CIP) fosters transformative intercultural experiences by leading the integration of global learning throughout the university community. The Center for International Programs seeks a coordinator who manages the immigration advising and support services for the international student population at Shenandoah University and administers all aspects of education abroad programs. This position reports to the Director of International Programs.

Primary Duties:
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO) who interprets and enforces regulations, as established by the Departments of State and Homeland Security, for F and J visa holders. This responsibility will require the advisor to maintain institutional records and routinely update information within the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and interpret immigration regulations for F and J non-immigrant status.
  • Plan and deliver orientation for new international students. Send out regular communications to incoming new students to prepare them for their studies at the university as well as living in the U.S.
  • Develop and coordinate cultural and support programming throughout the year for the international student population. Send out regular communications to the international student population in order to keep them updated on immigration matters as well as campus events.
  • Recommend, develop and revise, as necessary, university guidelines, policies and procedures pertaining to international students and scholars. Clearly communicate these guidelines and policies to students, faculty and staff. Work to ensure consistent protocol regarding policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the primary resource for education abroad programs and act as the first point of contact and communication with partner universities, incoming exchange students and students studying abroad.
  • Administer all outbound education abroad programs for students, which include but are not limited to: semester exchange/partner programs, short-term faculty led programs (GEL), and the Global Citizenship Project (GCP).
  • Plan and deliver pre-departure and re-entry workshops for students, oversee education abroad fair and provide CIP presence at university events.
  • Manage technology for the education abroad office, including maintaining Terra Dotta office management software, google drive folders, updating the website and other projects.
  • Work closely with key offices on campus (Registrar, Financial Aid, Residence Life, Admissions, academic advisors) to create policies and coordinate incoming and outgoing education abroad processes.
  • Assist in collecting, compiling and analyzing international student and scholar, education abroad, GCP and GEL program data for effective decision-making by the Center for International Programs and for reporting to regulatory agencies.
  • Provide leadership in marketing and outreach for Center for International Programs via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and the Sun-E.
  • Serve as staff advisor for the International Student Association (ISA).
  • Supervise student workers
Required Skills

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a field related to international education, social sciences, or humanities.
  • Previous experience serving as a DSO and/or ARO interfacing with SEVIS and documenting and organizing institutional records for international students and scholars.
  • Knowledge of immigration regulations and privacy laws and ability to utilize discretion and confidentiality when advising students/scholars.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • US citizenship or lawful permanent residency are required in order to be a DSO/ARO.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated flexibility and tolerance of ambiguity
  • Detail orientated for data entry and management of student data
  • Proficiency with Terra Dotta software
  • Knowledge of one or more languages other than English.
  • 3-5 years working in an international office and significant knowledge of related procedures and program development
  • Experience in studying, living, or working abroad.
