The Bard Early Colleges (BEC) are founded on the belief that many high school–age students are eager and ready for the intellectual challenges of a college education. The Bard Early Colleges act on this belief by providing younger scholars with a tuition-free, credit-bearing college course of study in the liberal arts following the 9th and 10th grades. Students are taught by college faculty in seminar classes and earn college credits up to an associate in arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College, concurrently with a high school diploma. Now in its second decade, the Bard Early College network serves over 2910 students in campuses in New York City, New York; Newark, New Jersey; New Orleans, Louisiana; Cleveland, Ohio; Baltimore, Maryland; and Washington, DC.

About the Bard Sequence
Bard invites applications for a dynamic individual who seeks to join a new initiative of the Bard Early Colleges – the Bard Sequence – which will enter its third year in 2021-2022. Through partnerships between Bard College and public high schools and school systems, the Bard Sequence allows students in the 11th and 12th grades to take Bard College’s signature interdisciplinary humanities Seminar Sequence and other college-level electives on site at their schools, taught by an adjunct professor selected and trained by Bard. The Bard Sequence offers students earlier exposure to college study and the opportunity to earn 12 Bard College credits over four semesters.
The Bard Sequence runs programs in Washington, D.C., Orange and Camden, NJ and Brooklyn and the Bronx, NY; this position is a remote / virtual learning and teaching program in Washington D.C.

Position Description:
The Bard Sequence is seeking an adjunct professor to teach Bard College elective courses using remote learning / virtual teaching tools in Computer Science to students at EL Haynes Public Charter School in Washington, D.C., in Spring 2022. The adjunct professor will have access to curricular resources, professional development, and a community of faculty teaching the course.

Key responsibilities:
Bard Sequence faculty members are required to participate in pre-course training and ongoing professional development to aid in the teaching of the dual enrollment courses. This professional development is overseen by the Director of the Bard Sequence and the Bard Early Colleges, Bard College’s early college division. Bard Sequence faculty members report to the Director of the Bard Sequence and Bard College's Vice President and Dean of the Early Colleges.

Expected Start Date:
Start date is January 31, 2022.

Location : Remote Teaching to schools in Washington, DC

Salary: $7,500 per section for two sections (15-25 students per section) for a total of $15,000 for the semester.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:
The successful applicant for this position will have a passion for college access and expanding dual enrollment opportunities and be excited to teach college classes to a diverse group of high school-age students in Washington, D.C.

An M.S./ M.A. degree in computer science or a closely-related field is required, and a terminal degree is preferred.

We have a need for candidates with high school and college teaching experience. Such experience is always welcome. Above all, the successful candidate will have an investment in working with first generation college students or those otherwise at risk of not completing college. The candidate must be flexible and adaptable in working through the challenges associated with scaffolding a rigorous program for these students.
