The dean serves as the c h ief acade m ic and ad m inistr a tive officer of the Sc h ool of Phar m acy; leading faculty and staff of the School in planning, securing resources, i m ple m enting and evalu a ting acti v ities rel a ted to a c ade m ic operations, research, service and patient care progra m s. The dean represents the School both int e rnally to the University and externally to the various stakeholders. T he dean also serves as par t o f th e University’s ad m inistrative team through participation in the Provost’s Academic Council and as a member of the President’s Cabinet. To accomplish these duties, the dean appoints and oversees administrative and supervisory personnel within the School, and for the regional campuses delivering our academic mission.

The successful candidate will provide academic, intellectual, and administrative leadership and promote quality in all facets of teaching, research, practice, and service. S/he will lead the ongoing development of the school’s vision and goals, integrate the school plans into the TTUHSC strategic plan, and effectively communicate the vision and goals to constituencies within and external to TTUHSC. The Dean shall serve on the TTUHSC academics council and represent the School of Pharmacy at TTUHSC administrative meetings.

The Dean has direct leadership responsibility and provides support for school faculty and staff. The Dean will collaborate with SoP faculty and staff in setting and funding overall school priorities and allocate funds to carry out the School’s plans. The Dean reports to the Provost and aligns with and supports the vision, mission and values of the TTUHSC enterprise. The Dean will advocate for all school programs, provide leadership to school faculty and staff, and ensure consistent quality standards in curriculum and programs that meet students’ needs. The Dean oversees the academic integrity of the SoP and provides leadership for emergent issues and long-range planning; budgeting; curriculum; program development; and leads efforts to expand interprofessional education (IPE) experiences across all school programs and campuses ensuring diverse experiences, opinions, perspectives and cultures are represented and considered in all curricular elements.

The successful candidate will have national recognition and demonstrated leadership and substantial administrative experience, strong scholarly visibility within pharmaceutical communities through research and contributions to the literature, and the ability to exercise policy leadership at local, state, national and international levels. The Dean will have a strong commitment to excellence in research, teaching and public service and lead the school in its mission to improve health through scientific discovery and clinical services.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Provides strategic leadership for the Pharmacy and supervision for all educational and research support services, including all programs and regional campuses;
  • Promotes the recruitment and retention of diverse and highly qualified faculty, staff and students;
  • Provide leadership to, and oversee, faculty development across the school;
  • Shows a high level of personal and professional commitment, enthusiasm, integrity and pride in the TTUHSC values-based culture and promotes TTUHSC’s values-based culture across his/her areas of supervision;
  • In collaboration with School faculty and staff, imagines, articulates, implements and is an advocate for the vision for the TTUHSC School of Pharmacy;
  • Empowers a collaborative team of faculty and staff to develop and provide innovative educational programs that prepare students to be competent and caring population and public health professionals
  • Promotes excellence and enhances academic instruction, research, scholarship, creative activity, public service and the diversity of the School;
  • Provides strategic leadership for interprofessional education and simulation-based teaching within the school insuring meaningful interprofessional education (IPE) experiences;
  • Maintains an awareness of current trends, issues, and relevant developments in the learning sciences and leadership development
  • Actively collaborates with and/or mentors faculty members in pursuing scholarly activities related to areas of direct supervision
  • Assesses the institutional and external environments and evaluates support for initiatives from institutional leaders, faculty and staff, and potential benefactors
  • Facilitates systematic reviews of academic policies and aligns the school’s policies and process with the University’s policies;
  • Supports the implementation of quality education and operations consistent with goals and objectives of TTUHSC and accreditation standards;
  • Reviews all evaluations and files regarding the reappointment, promotion, tenure or dismissal of faculty and makes recommendations to the Provost;
  • Embraces data-driven decisions;
  • Participates in community, alumni, and donor activities;
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the Provost and/or Office of the Provost

Required Qualifications
