Responsibilities

The Mercer University Tift College of Education is a community with the mission to advance the study of education and prepare educators to teach, to learn, to create, to discover, to inspire, to empower, and to serve, all for the betterment of a diverse and just society. In support of this mission, the Tift College is seeking a Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor of Literacy Education with experience and credentials in P-5 or 4-8 teaching to teach and provide professional and university service in support of the College's Teacher Education programs. Reporting to the Assistant Dean, the successful candidate will be housed in Macon at Mercer's Historic Main Campus and teach in our Elementary/Special Education (P-5) and Secondary Education (6-12) Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) initial certification programs. The position is a 9-month clinical appointment, with the opportunity for summer employment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate must have qualifications and credentials commensurate with the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor or higher. The successful candidate is expected to engage in teaching and service. Our B.S.Ed. program in Macon is taught in-person; however the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in-person courses in Macon and hybrid courses in our regional academic centers. These courses have in-person and online components. The successful candidate will be expected to provide service at the program and unit level. It is also expected that the successful candidate will participate in activities of programmatic development and professional development linked to instructional quality and student success as well as service to the professional and University communities. Additionally, it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to an environment of professionalism and collaboration within the initial certification programs across our undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs and the College.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Earned doctorate in Literacy Education, Early Childhood Education with literacy focus, Middle Grades Education with literacy focus, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Evidence of at least 3 years of successful P-5 or 4-8 teaching experience
  • Evidence of experiences with diverse school populations and culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy
  • Evidence of experience developing and delivering high-quality instruction in an in-person format and a virtual or hybrid format, both synchronous and asynchronous
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to support a culture of collaboration, inclusion, equity, and diversity

Preferred:

  • Evidence of an additional area of expertise (especially, ESOL, instructional design, social studies, online teaching endorsement/credential)
  • Evidence of expertise and/or teaching across Elementary, Middle, and Secondary grades P-12 in the area of literacy and/or language arts
