RESPONSIBILITIES

Tift College of Education is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor of Education in Computer Science with experience in K-12 computer science education. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Teacher Education for Macon and the Regional Academic Centers, the successful candidate will be housed on the University's Macon Campus. The position is a 9-month tenure-track appointment, with the opportunity for summer employment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will teach in-person and online courses in teacher education degree and endorsement programs, develop educational opportunities for computer science teachers, and contribute to the development and success of an interdisciplinary graduate program in instructional design and technology. The successful candidate will also maintain a defined line of research leading to publications in refereed journals, national and international presentations, and external grant funding. The position will provide opportunities for collaborative research and to supervise doctoral students. Additionally, the successful candidate will participate in programmatic development and professional development activities linked to high-quality instruction and student success, advise and mentor students, provide professional and University service, and contribute to an environment of professionalism and collaboration within the teacher education programs and the College.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: 

  • Earned doctorate in Computer Science Education, Instructional Technology, Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in computer science, or a related field from an accredited college or university 
  • Evidence of successful K-12 computer science teaching experience with diverse student populations 
  • Strong potential for scholarly productivity and advancing a defined research agenda 
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to support a culture of collaboration, inclusion, equity, and diversity 
  • Preferred: 

  • Evidence of successful college/university teaching in traditional and online settings 
  • Experience with academic program coordination 
  • Experience participating in assessment and continuous improvement efforts in either K-12 or collegiate settings
  • Evidence of or potential for scholarly productivity, including publications
  • Experience obtaining federal, state, or private grants or contracts and managing funded projects 
  • Knowledge of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards  
  • Experience as a technology professional in K-12 education
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies for education and instruction, such as augmented reality, artificial intelligence, learning analytics
  • Experience or expertise in instructional design at the K-12 or collegiate level
