RESPONSIBILITIESThe Mercer University Tift College of Education is a community with the mission to advance the study of education and prepare educators to teach, to learn, to create, to discover, to empower, and to serve, all for the betterment of a diverse and just society. In support of this mission, the Tift College is seeking a Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor of Elementary Education with experience and credentials in P-5 teaching to teach and provide professional and university service in support of the College’s Teacher Education programs. Reporting to the Assistant Dean, the successful candidate will be housed in Atlanta at the Cecil B. Day Graduate Campus and teach primarily in our Elementary Education Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) initial certification program. The position is a 9-month clinical appointment, with the opportunity for summer employment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate must have qualifications and credentials commensurate with the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor or higher. The successful candidate is expected to engage in teaching and service. Our Elementary MAT program is hybrid, and the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching in-person and online courses and supervising field experiences. The successful candidate will be expected to provide service at the program and unit level. It is also expected that the successful candidate will participate in activities of programmatic development and professional development linked to instructional quality and student success as well as service to the professional and University communities. Additionally, it is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to an environment of professionalism and collaboration within the Elementary MAT program and the College.
QUALIFICATIONSRequired:
- Earned doctorate in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
- Evidence of at least 3 years of successful P-5 teaching experience
- Evidence of experiences with diverse school populations and culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy
- Evidence of experience developing and delivering high-quality instruction in a virtual or blended format, both synchronous and asynchronous
- Superior interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
- Ability to support a culture of collaboration, inclusion, equity, and diversity
Preferred:
- Evidence of successful university-level teaching (e.g., graduate teaching assistant, adjunct, etc.)
- Evidence of a broad, generalist range of Elementary Education expertise (especially literacy and/or science)
Selection of the final candidate is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
