ROLE of the POSITION
The Department of Interdisciplinary, Gender, and
Ethnic Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is seeking
applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in African
American and African Diaspora Studies to start in August 2022. This
hire will be part of a Racial Equity, Diversity, Inclusion,
and Justice (REDIJ) cluster with faculty from the College of
Liberal Arts, College of Education, and College of Urban
Affairs. The REDIJ cluster is intended to foster multidisciplinary
and interdisciplinary collaborations related to race, ethnicity,
and justice that produce high-quality scholarship, contributing to
UNLV’s Top Tier 2.0 plan. In addition, the cluster will build on
existing faculty strengths in each of the colleges and create new
collaborative opportunities.
We are particularly interested in candidates who
possess expertise in interdisciplinary and/or creative
approaches to one or more of the following areas: the African
Diaspora, Black feminist theory, Black queer and/or trans studies,
or Afro-Latinx studies. The successful candidate will have a PhD in
Africana Studies, African American Studies, or a related social
science or humanities field.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Ph.D. from a regionally
accredited college or university in Africana, African American,
African Diaspora Studies, Black Studies, Ethnic Studies, or a
related field, experience teaching at the post-secondary
level, and working with a diverse student population.
Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of
employment.
SALARY RANGE
Salary competitive with those at similarly situated
institutions. Position is contingent upon
funding.
