Director, IT Operations

    REPORTS TO:            Executive Director, Information Technology



    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists the Executive Director of Information Technology (IT) in managing day-to-day operations, directing teams of technical, professional, and management staff in the successful fulfillment of IT service delivery commitments.
  2. Consult senior-level stakeholders across the entire organization to identify business and technology needs and to optimize the use of information technology
  3. Act as key technological advisor and consultant to senior and IT leadership on technology and architecture topics
  4. Develops strong relationships at all levels of the organization and across academic and administrative departments to improve communication and trust while creating opportunities to leverage technology for innovation.
  5. Leads the development and implementation of the College’s Information Security Plan and strategy, including information security and IT infrastructure projects; coordination of incident response; and security awareness and training on campus.
  6. Oversees the execution of institutional technology standards, governance processes, and performance metrics to ensure IT delivers value to the institution.
  7. Provides leadership in managing computer operations and production support, systems and database administration, network operations, PC/desktop support, and customer service.
  8. Establishes practices and standards to ensure IT services provided to students, faculty and staff result in an exceptional user experience, using appropriate tools and measurement methods to assess department performance and alignment with service level goals.
  9. With a strong understanding of the business impact of security tools, technologies and policies, develops IT policies, procedures, standards and guidelines in collaboration with the appropriate governance bodies.
  10. Performs risk, business impact, control, and vulnerability assessments, and defines mitigation strategies.
  11. Participates in the development and management of multi-year IT budgets, especially pertaining to capital expenditures and equipment refresh cycles.
  12. Manages IT resource requirements to ensure appropriate balance between tactical and strategic demands. Implements IT continuous improvement programs.
  13. Manages strategic partnerships with key IT product and services providers.
  14. May assume full responsibilities (or those responsibilities as directed) of the Executive Director during his or her absence.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Seven years of experience in a leadership role in IT
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience managing IT budgets of $2 million or higher
  • Expert knowledge of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems, and telecommunications systems
  • Familiarity with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, such as the U.S. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Strong knowledge of IT and IT security with demonstrated experience in such areas as authentication systems, network monitoring and auditing, system/network administration and troubleshooting, penetration testing, computer forensics, network security audits and documentation of processes and audit findings
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree
  • IT experience in higher education
  • ITIL Foundation Certification and/or IT Security
