The School of Architecture seeks a Computer Consultant II to join a dedicated team in the delivery of outstanding IT support to our students, faculty and staff. The Computer Consultant II is a primary contact for Information Technology Services ( ITS ) needs at the School of Architecture, needs include: desktop and laptops, hardware and software, remote access solutions, and tablets and/or smartphones. The Computer Consultant II advises on major purchases, creates updates and maintains installation packages and images for software deployment to faculty, staff and students. The Computer Consultant II installs, configures and maintains license servers and enforces license compliance; coordinates and provides training to faculty, staff and students in the use of deployed hardware and software. The Computer Consultant II provides general computing and technical support and serves on the technology committee of the School of Architecture. In coordination with other IT colleagues, the Computer Consultant II researches, tests and deploys new technologies. Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in computing in an academic setting preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Understanding of networking, IT hardware, software, and how it interacts with the operating system, printer, and printing capabilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of technologies as they pertain to the support of client devices and mobile computing platforms, including both Windows and macOS.
  • Working knowledge of PowerShell. Bash is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of A/V systems and workflow.
Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain and troubleshoot hardware and software applications on individual and departmental computers as well as all technology throughout the building and other locations including but not limited to printers, projectors, scanners, monitors, and fabrication equipment.
  • Responsible for the deployment and maintenance of computer labs, both physical and remote.
  • Provide technical consulting on computing to faculty, staff and students.
  • Analyze specialized individual and work group computing needs and develop specifications for computing solutions to meet those needs.
  • Assist in making recommendations to faculty on computing purchases for instructional and research applications.
  • Create and maintain computing documentation as necessary.
  • Maintain vendor relationships; provide input for budget recommendations (both hardware and software).
  • Responsible for IT asset management.
  • Guide and help students with personal computers as they interface with school’s technology.
  • Create/support new servers when needed and maintain existing servers while following university guidelines for monitoring logs, software updates, vulnerabilities, user creation, modification, privileges, lifespan.
  • Actively maintain knowledge of existing and emerging technologies, and trends. Apply that knowledge to the computer labs and classrooms with regard to hardware, software and deployment methods and technologies that enhance the student experience and enable the success of our students, faculty and staff.
  • Serve on the School’s technology committee and provide input on major equipment and software purchases.
